Golden Retriever Rescue
For the Love of Goldens
Adopted March 2004
Lil' Abby (#1000) found herself the perfect home, and she didn't have to look any further than her foster home in Canby. Dana is a first time foster for Golden Bond Rescue, and as soon as she met Abby, she knew the little sweetheart wouldn't be going anywhere else! Dana is being treated for cancer and describes Abby as "another reason to fight this battle and something to live for!" They are a perfect match! Abby is a devoted and loving companion to Dana, always by her side. In return, Dana makes homemade meals for Abby, takes her on short walks (Lil' Abby is 12 years young!), spends time in the backyard with her enjoying sunny days, and gives her lots of attention! Abby loves to greet the neighborhood children as they come home from school. They all fuss over how adorable she is, which keeps her tail constantly wagging. Dana's grandchildren have also fallen in love with this little darlin'! We don't know much about Abby's life before she was abandoned, but we do know that whatever time she has left will be the BEST years of her life!!
Update March 12, 2004
Lil' Abby had a mouth full of bad looking teeth, when she walked into the Wilsonville Vet Clinic on March 12th. Under Dr. Duvall's watchful care, she walked out "a new woman!" With teeth as awful as Abby's we anticipated several extractions. But, x-rays revealed that only one tooth had to be removed, since all of the other roots looked fairly good. After one extraction, and a thorough cleaning, Abby was happy to head back home to her foster mom. Abby's foster mom reports that Abby bounced back to her sweet self quickly, with pain medication and a special soft diet for a few days. We're sure that lots of TLC made all the difference!
Lil' Abby is Golden Bond's 1,000th Golden Retriever rescued! From humble beginnings in 1990, Golden Bond has grown to an organization with over 180 volunteers, and 150 goldens adopted in 2003.
Lil' Abby (#1,000) has a sad story, but a happy ending. Abby was left in the care of a Washington woman, while her owner said she had to move. The owner never came back, and this woman waited for 4 months, before contacting Golden Bond for help. The Washington woman loved Abby and declared her "a perfect dog." But, with several dogs of her own, and being involved in training service dogs, she was simply not able to keep Abby for herself.
Golden Bond volunteers love nothing more than helping the sweet seniors! Abby is 12 years old, and absolutely adorable! She has a petite build, although she had several pounds to lose, when she was abandoned. With most of the extra weight now off, Abby is able to move and play like a much younger dog. Abby loves to chase a tennis ball, or carry around a stuffed teddy bear. She will sit by your side for constant petting, and will remind you with her paw, if you stop!
Like many of the older dogs who come to us, Lil' Abby is in need of major dental surgery. At least six of her teeth are dead and need to be removed. Abby is in a wonderful foster home, where she is being loved and cherished, as she deserves to be. Send pawsitive thoughts for Abby's dental surgery, which will be in March.
