For the Love of Goldens
Adopted June 2004
Cedar (#1027) is now the reigning (only) canine in his new home with Joyce and Christina where he is learning to live with and love three cats. Not easy for a dog famous for cat chasing! New mom, Joyce, is director of the initiation program and tells us, "Our dog hater cat is really having fun with him she sits down nose to nose level and they look at each other and when Cedar is very relaxed and wanting to be friends she will make a low growling noise just loud enough to get him going. We are on to her and are working with both of them to broker a peace treaty. Cedar is not the instigator and is very quick to mind us."
Cedar's other talent which has made him famous is stealing socks which, once stolen, became his property and are not willingly given up. This is another work in progress as he is learning that there are other good things in the world besides socks like yummy treats!
Cedar and Joyce will begin obedience class soon where Cedar is sure to be the star pupil because he catches on to new activities so quickly.
Cedar, Joyce and Christina, we hope to see you at the Golden Bond picnic in August for a reunion.
Update July 8, 2004
Just wanted to say hello. We got Cedar's new tag for his chip this week. He is doing great! He is so happy and smiles all the time. He met his cousin Buddy over the fourth and they had a great time together. He is really enjoying doggy daycare and has a best friend who looks just like him. Cedar is doing pretty well at dog training. I have talked to Dove Lewis about therapy dog school and I don't think Cedar will be ready this year. Still getting used to the cats not friends yet. Cedar has brought so much joy to our lives and I sure do enjoy having him. See you at the picnic.

Update October 2004
Cedar is becoming a very beautiful and more mature dog. He is clearly bonded with us now and loves us a lot! We love him lots too. He is getting used to the cat and they are peaceful together much of the time. Cedar will still chase her if she gets him going. But he will stop immediately if we tell him to leave it. He has some problems the biggest one is fear of getting into the car. We have to lift him in. Our vet suggests that we work with an animal behaviorist to help him with this. We are planning to do that. Cedar loves doggie day care and has many dog friends. He continues to want to meet everyone he sees at the park. We are so pleased with him, he is perfect for us. We couldn't ask for a more wonderful companion.
