Success Story: Danny (#1084)

Adopted October 24, 2004

The joys and benefits of adopting a wonderful senior golden are captured in this story of the family that adopted Danny (#1084). Their first Golden Bond dog was Caesar, also a distinguished senior. Sadly, Caesar was with them only a few months before going to the Rainbow Bridge, but long enough to gently help Abby, who was 4 at the time, overcome her fear of dogs.

Now with two more children in the family, it was agreed that they need another grand, senior golden to love them and be loved by them. Below is Danny's story and update, along with a picture of him with his new family (most of them!).

DannyI just wanted to let you know that Danny's first weekend with us has gone very well. The initial adjustment, in fact, has been easier than I ever imagined. It's like Danny's always been a part of the family. The kids love Danny — they go wherever he goes with a hand always on him and he's great about putting up with it. He moves slower when they're around so that he doesn't knock them over. He's slept in our room the past two nights and he doesn't even make noisy panting noises. He's already an experienced dog door user — I'm sure that our kids going back and forth through the door to demonstrate its use helped. ;-)

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you again for the great work you do. We're thrilled to have a new member of the family.

Update November 3, 2004

Danny and FamilyDanny has been home now for just a week and a half and I'm not sure how we ever got along without him. He's fit seamlessly into our home and our hearts. We've spent a long time looking for the right dog for our family, and there's no doubt that Danny is it.

The kids absolutely love Danny. With a 2, 4 and 6 year old in the house, we were geared up to watch every minute of time they spent with him to ensure the dog's safety (more than the kids!) while they got acquainted and learned the rules. I wanted to be sure our 2 year old didn't try to identify Danny's body parts like "eye" and "mouth" by poking her fingers in them (like she does to her parents). I needn't have feared, though. It's very clear to Danny that he's MINE and he shadows me throughout the house at all times, making it very easy to monitor him. The kids, of course, shadow Danny, so I have quite the entourage as I make my way from the kitchen to the living room to the bedroom. It does get a little snug when I need something from the closet, though!

DannyDanny has been sleeping on the floor in our bedroom and, after some initial experimentation, has found the spot he's least likely to be tripped over by one of the kids making the midnight trek to mom and dad's room — poor dog! He's very polite at all times and aims to please. He even makes half hearted attempts to let us know when someone comes to the front door — the average dog might give a full-throated "WOOF". Not Danny. His is more "woo" and then he loses interest in the "barking" and focuses instead on tail-wagging and waiting politely to be noticed. He's even managed to win over our non-canine-loving friends.

Thanks again for all your help, fostering Danny and getting him ready for us. We sure appreciate all of you at Golden Bond.
