Success Story: Tucker (#1095)

Adopted October 3, 2004

TuckerHi, my name is Tucker (#1095). I'm a very happy boy, because my foster family has decided to adopt me! My foster mom (Jeanie) is one tough nut to crack. When I arrived here, she quickly explained to me that I was their 26th foster, and that my stay would be just temporary. Little did she know that I have a way with the women, and would quickly wiggle my way into her heart! My Mom has been working hard to solve my allergy and thyroid problems (I'm a very itchy boy!). I guess you could say we bonded as she rubbed my belly with tea tree oil spray! Oh boy, does that feel good!!  :)

Tucker, Abby, TobyNow I have a human brother (Kevin, 12), who likes to get on the floor and snuggle with me. Kevin is my special buddy, and he's going to help take care of me. I get two cats (Heidi and Karli) as part of the deal, which is great since I love cats. I am also joining two other goldens: Abby (9) and Toby (12). Toby was adopted from Golden Bond eight years ago, and he's still a lively old guy!! We are going to go on lots of walks, hikes and trips to the dog park.

Thank you Jeanie, John, Lisa & Kevin for making me the luckiest foster you've ever had!

Update February 4, 2005

TuckerTucker continues to be a good sport, especially through his ongoing ordeal with itchy skin, allergy testing, blood work, etc. Tucker has now been to our regular Vet, a dermatology specialist, and finally a Vet with expertise in immunity problems. When it's all said and done, we hope that we can get some relief for this special boy. In the meantime, he wears a collection of t-shirts, on his itchier days. He sends a special "thanks" to his human brother, Kevin, for the hand-me-down t-shirts!!

Update August 21, 2005

Tucker
Tucker is doing so much better! Last spring I read the book "Pets at Risk" by Dr. Alfred Plechner, and realized that the symptoms of an Endocrine/Immunity disorder sounded like Tucker. Fortunately, the Veterinarian who wrote the Forward for the book is Dr. Albert Simpson, right here in Oregon City! After his first appointment, and extensive blood testing, Tucker started on a protocol of 3 medications, fish oil and a diet that rotates protein sources. The results have been amazing! Tucker no longer has to wear a t-shirt, he doesn't scratch and lick constantly (in fact, hardly at all), and he looks more handsome than ever with his beautiful new coat!

Tucker lives for chasing the tennis ball! A few times each day, we head outside for a tennis ball session with Tucker! Tucker looks so happy, when he is running back to us with a tennis ball in his big smiling mouth. It makes us realize how far he has come, from the unhappy and uncomfortable dog that he was just a year ago!
