Success Story: Gwenyvere (#1138), now Jenny

Adopted November 19, 2005

Gwen
Hi there... don't I look happy?

Karl and Anna brought me to my forever home a couple of weeks ago and I'm so glad that they did. They say that I'm fitting in perfectly and that they're very, very glad to have me as part of the family. They call me Jenny — and I love it... it's so ME! Karl and Anna lost their beautiful golden-girl, Katy, this summer and they say that I've brought so much fun and happiness to the house that it really fills the emptiness.

Boy... the emptiness is filled for me, too. I get all of the love from TWO people. How cool is that?! PLUS, Katy left me lots of beds and toys and balls. I love balls — can you see me hunting for my ball under my bed? I'm ball-crazy! The other picture shows me on one of my ball-chasing trips at the park. I ran a lot that day and I was kind of pooped! Mom calls me 'Zen'-Jen after we've had a good 'cardio' session. I'm not sure what that means, but I'm usually feeling pretty mellow when she says it.

Gwen
I've been really good and I've experienced a lot of new things. I've met all of the neighbors and some of the neighbor dogs. Every day, I get to do something fun. We either go for a long walk or I run with Mom or Dad or I get to chase tennis balls in the park! It doesn't matter what — I like them all! We live on Bainbridge Island in Washington. Did you know that islands are surrounded by WATER? That's so cool because I love to swim — it's a little cold right now, so I'm waiting until it warms up. Guess what? I've been on ferry rides too... what fun!

Well, gotta go... Mom needs to use the computer. Thanks so much Golden Bond for helping me out again. You all are the best. Also, special thanks to my Foster Mom, Rita. I miss you and I miss my buddies Cooper and Emma. Please stay in touch with me.

Wags and Licks from Jenny! Happy Holidays to you all... mine are going to be the BEST ever!

Gwenyvere's "Available" Story

Gwen
My name is Gwenyvere (#1138). Foster mom also calls me Sweetie Girl and Sugar Pie 'cause I am all that, too. I just turned 3 years old in September and weigh about 62 lbs., which is just right for my slender frame and my long legs. I am quite athletic and the extra weight would hamper my sprinting and sliding after the tennis ball. When I get my two "cardio sessions" a day, coupled with a few walks, I am calm and mellow in the house. Bring that ball out ANYTIME and I am ready!

Foster mom says a good relationship is all about good communication. And, she sure does know how to speak my language... short, simple, and sweet. This really helps me because I can sometimes be sensitive to harsh tones, over-bearing body language, or grumpiness. Don't really know why and it doesn't matter now anyway. I just do best with positive and patient attitudes. When I feel hesitant about something, gentleness and a treat will let me know it's OK. Then I feel safe just to be me and I can let my awesome self shine through. I know "sit", "down", "wait", "come", "leave it" and walk well on a leash. I even came in first place in a training class recently. They teach humans a positive, reward-based method of training dogs. Not sure what that means... I just thought it was fun. I get along well with my foster brother and sister and have been known to invite other dogs to play at the dog park. We do not have any cats in the house here, but when I visit friends who do, I have no trouble with them. I am more interested in the people.

Gwen
I can get quite excited when I meet new people and foster mom is teaching me that all good things come to those who wait. I am learning that when I am patient and calm, something good will happen... like I get attention from a new person, get a treat, or we get to have a little play session. I need more practice with this, but again, I am so responsive and am improving all the time. When a visitor comes to the door, I can bark up a storm like a guard dog until I am reminded to back away and sit patiently. Children age 12 and over would be OK. I can be a little too exuberant for the younger ones and I don't like it when my tail or ears get pulled. I know they don't know any better, but I don't like it anyway.

I am a great hiking companion and love the outdoors. And like a typical Golden, I love water! Swimming, splashing, fetching... to me, everything is better in the water. I don't even mind getting cleaned up with the garden hose after a muddy romp in the park. Foster mom says the mud I pick up is well worth the joy she gets from watching me have so much fun. Once I am cleaned up, my beautiful, soft, silky fur is ready to be brushed or stroked again. I also travel well in the car, though I may be a little hesitant to jump in at first. Again, just work with me on this and you'll see your patient guidance pay off.

I am having a really good time here with my foster family and they take great care of me. But what I really want is my own forever family. Let me know if that's you.
