In June of 2004, we adopted "Chauncy" well aware of his health problems. He had eleven happy months with us before sadly succumbing to cardiac arrest on 5/5/05, he is missed.
Our long-term dog Sam seriously injured a rear leg shortly thereafter and at age 10, we decided that the addition of a new dog would be too stressful for him. BUT, as happens, I logged onto your site and saw "Rusty" who had the perfect description for our eccentric family. Thankfully you let us rush the process and two days later, Ray was able to pick the pup up from his foster home in Portland on his return to Yachats following a family visit in Seattle, great timing!
Rusty is now known as "Rustbucket", Rust for short. With the exception of one skirmish between the dogs, he's quickly adjusted to us and we to him. Being plopped into a home with 20 cats can be real culture shock but he's handled it well and has developed close friendships with several of his felines. He's such a beach dog, the house has never seen so much sand. Despite his arthritis, he makes long runs on the beach but his cloudy eyes just can't grasp the concept of those pesky mussels and barnacles that squirt at him, a round of barking at them seems to help. His foster mom was correct, Rust just bounces all the time, usually with a big smile on his face. With Deb home most of the time, a comfy truck to ride in, 5 acres of trails and beach and a 'grandpa' living next door, the old boy is very content and happy.
We had discouraged Rust from coming upstairs to the bedroom due to his arthritis and because we keep cat kibble in the bathroom for a partially blind cat, but sleeping downstairs alone wasn't for him, so up he came. We're careful to help him back down as the tile is slick but beyond that he's not even attempted to steal the cat food.
Again, thanks for trusting us with the big guy, it seems like he's always been part of the family. Sam-dog is actually happier with a fellow canine around again and Rust has given us much love, fun and laughter. He's in his final home after many moves and we're so very happy to have him. Many thanks to Golden Bond, foster mom Marty and Jody.

Please don't get mad at me if I don't obey you the first time; I am getting a little hard of hearing. And my eye sight isn't what it used to be. My heart says I'm still young, but my body doesn't always agree. I have arthritis in my hips. I am now taking glucosamine and is that ever great. My foster mom takes me for daily walks which I love. I really jump around when the leash comes out.
I get along great with my foster sister. She is a quite sedate for a 4 year old. I also get along great with the 2 cats that is after they showed me the rules of the house! My foster mom says I am very smart. It only took me a couple of times to learn how to go up the ramp into her SUV. I love to go for rides, but I just can't jump into the vehicle anymore, I also love those soft stuffed squeaky toys even though I am a little rough on them.
