Success Story: Max (#1284)

Adopted September 11, 2005

Max
Hello from Max's new forever family. Wanted to let everyone know how he is doing.

Max has been with us for not quite three weeks, yet we feel like he has been a part of our family forever. His spirit is gentle and kind and very loving. He came to us knowing a few of the every day commands such as 'sit' and 'lay'. Now we are working on 'stay', 'come', and 'fetch'. He is very smart and eager to please and learn.

When he came to us he was a little under weight. It hasn't taken long for him to put on a few pounds! He is looking handsome and healthy. We're still working on getting rid of the itchy's and that seems to improve every day. He was so good at responding to his name that we chose to keep it 'Max'.

We took our first trip to the beach last week where he could run and chase the birds, dried seaweed, and bark at the ocean. The closer we get to the beach, the harder he pulls on the leash! He gets so excited thinking about all the smells and different textures he gets to explore!

We lost our golden to cancer last summer and we were sure we could never replace him. I even hesitated to get another golden too quickly. But then one day, while browsing the Golden Bond Rescue web site, there he sat staring back at me. Somehow I knew he needed us as bad as we needed him.

Today we are one big happy family and very thankful for the opportunity Golden Bond Rescue has given us — to have a wonderful dog like Max!

Max's "Available" Story

Max
Wiggle & Bounce — That's ME! My name is Max (#1284), and I'm 20 months old! My first family didn't have much time or love to share with me, and when they decided to move, they didn't want to pack me along. So, I got rescued!!! I really like my new life. I didn't get quite enough food at my first place, and so I'm kind of skinny at the moment. But I'm getting extra food now (shhh! don't tell foster sister!), and I should probably gain about 7 or 8 more pounds, then I’ll be PERFECT!!! I currently live with my foster parents, and foster sister Golden named Alex. Alex and I like to run and play all day — we growl, bark, drag each other around by the neck, jump on top of each other, and then start all over. It's really cool! And I like to BOUNCE!

I'm smart, eager to please, know some of my basic commands, and want to learn more! I do like to bounce, but mostly I hop up and down in front of people. Sometimes I forget my manners and put my paws on the humans, but quickly bounce off, and sit down. I'm trying very hard to learn how to keep four on the floor, but it can be hard for a puppy!

When my foster mom sits on the couch, I like to lie down and put a big paw on her foot, just so I know if she tries to go anywhere. I get very concerned if she leaves the room and I can't go with her, so I keep a vigil by the baby gate until she gets back to me safely. I always feel better when she comes back!! I've been accused of counter surfing, but really I'm just trying to help you keep the place tidied up. Hey, if you put things away, I won't feel the need to double-check your work! I must admit that like a lot of puppies, I do like a good chew. I'm still learning what's mine, and what's not, so you need to keep an eye on me, and help me learn the ropes. I love to chew on hard things like Nylabones, and can spend hours on my back, bone between paws, chewing away. I wag my tail a lot to show you how happy I am!! When you're not around, it's probably best to keep me in a crate, or other contained area, so I don't get myself into trouble. I just need some guidance and training, please! I have lots of puppy energy, and I love to play fetch (I bounce a lot when I'm looking for the ball; then I bounce really high when I find it!!)

I'd like a forever family where someone can pay lots of attention to me, and play with me, and let me wiggle and bounce — which I've mentioned I'm very good at already. Someone who is home during the day, or part of it, would be great! I'd also like another dog, and/or kids to play with. Foster Mom says kids over 8 would probably be best — any smaller, and I might knock them over in my enthusiasm. I really like to go for walks, and would appreciate someone having the time to take me for a big walk every day.

If you'd like to meet me and see me bounce, give me a call!

Hi, Foster Mom here. I should mention that Max has a slight ear infection, which could be caused by food sensitivity. He is currently being fed Natural Balance Duck and Potato, which is readily found at many pet stores, and is about the same price as regular high-quality food. He also has itchy skin, which should improve with some more baths. All in all he's a very sweet boy desperate for his own home to lavish him with love.
