Success Story: Caesar (#1288), now Gus

Adopted September 23, 2005

Caesar
Hello from my forever home!

My name is Gus, aka Caesar (#1288). I've been here for almost three weeks and things just keep getting better and better. My forever family includes my mom and dad, my chocolate lab brother (Jake) and two kitties (Scooter and Zoe).

When mom picked me up from my foster home, I impressed her right away by staying in the back of her car and riding quietly all the way home. (I guess she's used to Jake crawling over the back seats or something). Then I really outdid myself by showing her how to open the backyard gate. That impressed Jake too. Although, that was the only time it worked, seems they lock the gate now when we all go out to play.

Jake was very happy to see me when I got home and ran back and forth around the yard. He's yelled at me a couple of times when I've tried to steal his treat or toy. But all and all we're getting pretty used to each other. I like to give him kisses and he likes to lay down near me. (Don't tell him, but I have noticed him moving closer and closer to me...)

Things here are pretty good. I learned its okay to get on the couch (wow — was I happy to find that out!). I also learned that its okay to sleep with my mom and dad, but I can't try and push Jake off. The kitties are a bit more difficult to figure out. One is very sweet and the other one is very grumpy. The hard part is remembering which one is which.

All and all I'm really starting to settle down and relax. I know that mom and dad have to go to work, but when they come home we all play, hang out, and go for walks. I love my food and there are plenty of cookies (well, at least that's what mom says, I think we could definitely increase the cookie consumption). They really like to brush me and I hear all the time that I'm very handsome and have a wonderful smile (as you can see from the picture). Oh, did I mention Jake and I have lots of toys? My favorite so far is a very loud squeaky ball. Sometimes I can't find it, but I think that's because mom likes to surprise me with it later.

Well, that's what's going on so far. Thank you so much, Golden Bond, for bringing us together. It was meant to be!

Caesar's "Available" Story

Caesar
HI! I'm Caesar (#1288), but you don't have to salute me as if you were entering the Colliseum! I'm a very handsome almost six year old (next month) who came to Golden Bond because of a family dissolution. What is a divorce, anyhow? Guess it means they can't keep me any longer. It was pretty confusing at first — I was given up to Golden Bond, neutered (ouch!), deflea-ed and given lots of shots (ouch again). Then I was taken by car (never been in a car!) north where I met my foster mom and Cleo(patra) and Shadow, who were to be my buddies until I could find my own home.

I settled right in, and made the transition from an outside dog (yard during the day, garage at night) quickly. It's NEAT to be in the house, where all the interesting stuff is happening. My foster mom says my house manners are perfect — I don't counter-surf (tho I'm certainly big enough!) and know what the outdoors is for. My leash manners need a little work — I heel nicely until I smell something irresistible — then I pull a bit. Recently on our walk, there were two cats in the path. One ran and the other stood its ground and growled at me. I showed my good manners by walking quietly by, not even tugging on the leash. Squirrels, now that's another matter!

When Golden Bond took me in, I had a couple of old scars from lick granulomas, and in the confusion of losing my home, I began paying attention to them again. But they are healed and I don't lick them anymore.

I love my buddies, Shadow and Cleo, both goldens. The cat and I just ignore each other. Best of all, I love to keep my foster mom in sight, to the extent of walking backwards down the hall in front of her and dragging my bed into which ever room she's busy in. I love to chase tennis balls, but don't give them up until you throw a different one.

I am great with other dogs, cats and children over five only because I like to kiss a lot! I am a little shy around adult men until I get to know them and know they will treat me kindly.

I really want a home of my own. If you want a big hunk of loving gold, I'm your guy!

Note from foster mom: Ceasar is BIG (92 lbs.) but I don't think he's fat. He's a really sweet guy, and so grateful for attention and love. It's going to be tough to let him go.
