Success Story: Melanie (#1328), now Annie Oakley

Adopted December 13, 2005

Melanie
My name is Annie Oakley. My mom and human sister thought it was a good derivative of Melanie (#1328), my first name. It seems to me that a lot is different in my life. I was picked up in car on a very dark, cold and rainy night in the beginning of December from my foster home. That was fun, with two very nice humans and three beautiful, rambunctious Goldens. We drove from Canby to my new home in Lake Oswego. It was dark, like I said, and kind of a bumpy ride and I was a little bit scared... okay a lot scared. My mom and sister brought me into the living room where I promptly got sick. They said, "Oh that's okay. We both get car sick too." They quickly cleaned it all up and gave me lots of hugs and kisses. That's when I knew they were a good human family. I haven't done anything that they have had to clean up since then. That night, I slept on a new dog bed at the foot of my mom and dad's bed, and dreamed of all the good things that would come.

The good things to come were the walks around the neighborhood and to Starbucks where I get a treat and everyone comments on how beautiful I am. There are also trips to Sunriver where there is a lot of lovely snow to throw balls in, which then get lost until I can dig my nose in to find them. There was a Christmas vacation with lots of different people to love me, from age 88 to 6 months, the family kept calling me the sweetheart angel dog. My human brother and sister, who were home from college for Christmas, were really, really fun because they can throw the ball much farther than my mom can. My family even brings the cat along to Sunriver. I am not sure about her, I just stay away and let her work out her crankiness by herself. Hopefully, in time she will get to love me and call me sweetheart angel dog, too.

My poor mom hurt her knee skiing and I gave it a big kiss when she came the house with a soft cast on. She walks me now, but at pretty slow pace, she just has to remind me to slow down and I look back at her limping around and remember to keep it a snail's pace. I walked with her to physical therapy the other day. The people there thought I was so cute they let me stay inside and play with them in the back room until my mom was done. I will keep my mom company while she recuperates from surgery and I know she will be in good running form soon. In the meantime, my dad will take me to the dog park and throw lots of balls to me. I am a very happy, sweetheart, angel dog named Annie.
