We adopted Kiki in early July, and her new name is now Nikki. She has two Golden Retriever sisters, Chelsea, age 10, and Morgan, age 9. The three of them have become the best of friends. She also has a little sister in the form of a cat, and at first all she wanted to do was play with Seiko, but she soon learned that Seiko really wanted nothing to do with her, so they now respect each others space.
There was the initial concern that by bringing Nikki into our home that she might be too rambunctious for her 90 year old grandma, but Caroline absolutely adores her. We haven't had any problems with knockdowns or climbing into a lap.
Nikki gets to go for a 2 mile walk every morning, and every afternoon, you will find her and her sisters down at the river for their daily swim. She sure does love to splash in the shallow water as she torments Chelsea and Morgan. They both dive for rocks, and Nikki just loves to knock the rocks away from them. She also loves to chase the waves that the passing boats make.
We currently have Nikki enrolled in obedience school, and she is due to get her diploma this week. She is a "Allstar", and she will ace her final exam. When we got Nikki she was a little on the thin side, but she has put on 6 lbs, and she now looks great. We also had her hips x-rayed to make sure there would not be any unexpected surprises in the future, and it was good news. No hip problems for Nikki. Her brother was diagnosed with hip dysplasia earlier this year, so it was a big concern for us.
We are so happy to have Nikki as part of our family, and it would appear that Nikki is just as happy as we are. She has found her forever home.
