Success Story: Annie (#1436)

Adopted August 15th, 2006

Annie

Annie was first rescued from the local animal shelter by a very sweet volunteer, who just couldn’t bear the thought of her having to be put down because she was deemed “un-adoptable”. Annie was so afraid of everything and everyone that she “hopped” instead of walked and after being abandoned in the wild was covered with ticks and skunk spray.

We met Annie 5 weeks later, she was still very afraid of everyone, but really wanted to be loved. Annie has a fear of doors and the leash. She had obviously been abused by a previous owner and would pee submissively if you looked at her wrong or scolded her. We took her home and worked really hard to help her overcome her fears.

We made a lot of mistakes and it wasn’t until we found a trainer that Golden Bond had suggested that things began to turn around. Annie loves people so much and it is heartbreaking to see such a sweet dog cower and squint in fear and at the same time really want to interact with people.

With the trainer’s help our Annie is a changed dog. We still have a long way to go, but she is so much a part of our lives that when we recently went on a short family trip, we counted every minute until we were with her again. She loves our teenage son and likes to play tug-a-war just like a “normal” 2 yr old Golden. She comes in every morning at 6:00 am and wiggles her way up to the side of the bed growling (her way of talking) and snorting (her “joyful” noise) until we pet her and take her out on a walk.

It is very hard to imagine our lives without her now. She is a very permanent part of our lives.
