Success Story: Lilly (#1447)

Adopted September 9th, 2006

Lilly

I arrived at Golden Bond in early July of 2006 after having been in a shelter in Washington as a stray. I must have looked pretty worn and weary, because the intake person at the shelter entered my age as 10+ in the intake report. It was also thought that I was depressed a girl when I first arrived there. I had a hair loss pattern that suggested that I may have worn a harness. It seemed clear to most that I was not abused, but probably badly neglected.

Shortly I went to live with my very caring and able foster mom, Kathleen, and foster golden brother. While in Kathleen's home I was diagnosed as hypothyroid, and began taken daily medication. The vet also confirmed that I am younger than originally thought. After living with Kathleen for 7 weeks, she determined that I was ready for a forever home. Tom and Sue came to see me in early September, after having seen my photo on the GOLDEN BOND RESCUE website. There was something about my story that captured their interest and hearts. They had lost their former dog in July, and they hoped that Kathleen would agree to let me be a part of their family. Since they live in the Willamette Valley and I lived in the metro Portland area, they were allowed to visit me, think about whethe r I was right for them, and then take me home the same day! It was scary, a bit confusing and exciting to climb into that pickup backseat and set off for 'home'.

When I got home, I was pretty low key. I was just not too sure that another new situation would be temporary. But it didn't take long for me to feel right at home with my new family and home. Sue and Tom could tell that my joints kind of bothered me, so off to the vet we went to get a thorough look over. The new vet made several diet and supplement recommendations, that we've followed to a T! And boy have I changed! They tell me every day I am a BEAUTY and a sweet girl to boot! My coat is glossy, shiny and thick, with no hair loss apparent at all. I am glad to say my dandruff and a rather unpleasant smelling coat are gone too! I take thyroid medication daily along with a hip and joint supplement, and with special attention to diet and grooming, I am one transformed girl! I am trusting, happy and very attached to my new family, Tom and Sue. I've even lost weight, and again have a waist.

There are three adults in my human family: Sue and Tom and Sue's dad, Joe. Joe is 85, and he spends his days gardening and walking, and we love to hang out together. My favorite place is the deck that overlooks a busy wooded ravine, and I can see and hear and smell such wondrous things down in the woods! Might be deer, might be squirrels... I don't know, but I am on watch! I have visited Sue's classroom and the students loved me as much as I loved the students. I love to go for walks, rain or shine, and eagerly wait by the door for my family to come home daily. I know their vehicles, and becomes quite animated when I sees them pull into the drive. It is good to be loved and adored. It is so good! I am here FOREVER!!!
