For the Love of Goldens

Success story: Emma (#407) and Rose (#428)

This is the story of an adoption. Like all such Golden Bond furry tails it begins . . .

Once upon a time there were two young goldens, two foster homes and two neighbor friends. One young golden lived her first year somewhere, but she was abandoned late one night, tossed inside a fenced yard near a busy street. An animal rescue friend called Golden Bond Rescue. Little no-name came into her foster home and became Emma #407. The other young golden began her life with a family and a name. Rose #428 tried her best to learn and to please, but it was not a happy time for her. In her first year she learned to fear and distrust and to hide from human contact. Her family decided to give her up and she too came into a foster home.

In their foster homes, Emma and Rose learned to trust. They found people who cared and who had time for them. They met kindly, patient resident goldens, learned to walk on leash, listen and respond, go for car rides and have a safe place to sleep. These two young goldens blossomed into health and confidence.

One day in early summer, a family came to visit Emma. They liked her and invited her to come and live with them. So Emma was adopted and went on a long car trip to her new home. Very soon, though, there was a phone call. Emma's new family said that she could not stay with them. She did not fit in. So, after three days and another long car ride, Emma came back to her foster home. There she stayed for the summer.

Now Emma and Roses's foster homes were not so far apart and sometimes the fosters moms brought their dogs together for play. Emma and Rose became friends. One time Emma stayed with Rose for several days and later Rose came to stay with Emma. The girls played and danced and pranced, and the two older residents were glad for the break from the youngsters! The two fosters moms wondered if Rose and Emma might ever find a family who wanted two young goldens. It was a wish for these two girls who had come so far.

One afternoon in August, the two neighbor friends decided to come to the Golden Bond picnic. They wanted to be among goldens, though they had none of their own. Sadly, one had lost her beautiful Bella to cancer not so long ago. There were tears when they saw all of the wonderful goldens and their people. Rita didn't plan to ... and Carol never intended ... but there were Rose and Emma. Golden magic began that afternoon ... the beginning of an answered wish. The goldens, the fosters and the friends went back to their homes. Soon, paperwork and visits were completed. The young goldens, their fosters and the two neighbor friends made plans for an evening together with dinner and talk, stories and instruction. The next morning, the two young goldens jumped in the car with the two neighbor friends and began their lives again. There will be many walks, hugs, time together and with their own special persons. Emma went home with Rita and Rose went home with Carol.

And, in the way of furry tails, did they all live happily ever after, the two young goldens, the two fosters and the two neighbors? Well, we can't know that part of the story. We do know, though, that they will be friends for a long, long time. And that, perhaps, is what matters most of all.
