For the Love of Goldens
On a cold and snowy December evening, my foster family packed my toys and food dishes and we drove to McMinnville. Dina and Mindy, and children, Megan and Joshua, invited us to come in to my new forever home. I had the best time exploring the house and yard, and discovered my new roommates were of the feline variety. That's okay.
The first time I met my new family, we had the best time getting to know each other. Dina and Mindy told me about all the good times we could share at their beach house on weekends. I especially liked the idea of getting to go to work with Dina everyday, where I could spend my time visiting new friends. My foster family told my new family all about my love of carrots and fruit, and how I take my pills in a big spoonful of peanut butter. Dina and Mindy even had some apple slices for me to enjoy while we sat by the fireplace and talked.
I sleep upstairs every night where I guard my family, then first thing in the morning, I bound down the stairs to my food dish, in anticipation of my breakfast and a new day full of adventures.
I said goodbye to my foster family and Golden pals, Angel and Honey Bear and wished them a happy new year. We'd spent a lot of time together during the summer and fall, waiting for just the very best family to come along. I know we'll get an opportunity to visit and share some good times together.
Update: April 2004
Just thought I would drop you a line and tell you how I am doing in my new home. First of all, my parents want to tell you that they are so sorry that they have not communicated my success earlier, but illnesses in the family have kept them pretty busy.
Remember me? I am Hayduke #430, fostered by Don and Patty Dutcher in Monmouth for several months before coming to live with Mindy Compton and Dina Crown and kids in McMinnville in 12/03.
I want you to know that I am doing very well and have fit in beautifully with my new family (even those pesky cats!!) I go to work every day with Dina and have made many new friends people and dogs alike. Dina thinks I missed my calling the first eight years of my life as I am a natural-born therapy dog!!
My parents are watching my diet very closely and, despite the fact that I probably have put on a few pounds, my skin and coat look wonderful and itching and skin problems appear to be a thing of the past for me.
I am still spoiled rotten now more than ever and wanted you to know that I am doing very well and am very loved. My parents say "thank you" to Golden Bond for finding them a great new addition to their family (that would be me!!)
We look forward to the annual picnic in August and Dina still wants to volunteer with Golden Bond when the illnesses in the family become a little more manageable.
Thanks again Golden Bond.
Love, Hayduke (and Mindy, Dina, Megan and Jonah)
