For the Love of Goldens
Adopted Fall 2003
There is nothing better than the words of a happy new owner to describe their new puppy. This is about Buddy (#444).
Carlo and I (Joyce) are overjoyed! He is a beautiful little dog. He is only one year old, but is so glad to love you and sleep on the rug by your feet. At night he went right to the special rug we placed at the foot of our bed, and went right off to sleep. It was easy taking him out around 6:00 AM (on his lead) and he knew what that was all about. Then around 8:30 AM we took him on a lead around our neighborhood and he met some neighbors who thought he looked great. He does not pull on the lead very much, walks nicely and does what he was taken out for. He gets another [walk] late afternoon, providing it isn't raining.
We couldn't be happier, and we are sure he couldn't be happier either.
So glad you contacted us. We have been wanting to tell anyone at Golden Bond Rescue just what a wonderful doggie our "Beulie" aka Beaulieu [formerly named Buddy] is! He is such a delight in our home, and he seems to be the happiest of dogs! I have so many pictures of him, and would like to e-mail some to you, but I'm not too good at that. If you could give me a mailing address I'd love to send you some by snail mail, and you can see for yourself what a happy little guy he is.
This is a true "put my head on your lap" kind of animal. He adores Carlo, and he knows that Carlo is No. 1 Alpha Male (most of the time). In December, I (Joyce) had a total hip replacement and Beulie had to adjust to first of all, my being in a wheel chair. Next he had to figure out what my walker is all about, and now he seems to still understand that I'm not yet quite ready to run with him. All during my recovery he never jumped up on my side of the bed.
Wherever we go, our doggie goes too. He is good at staying in the car, and is a quiet traveler. He has taken over-night trips and been a good guest wherever we stay.
I often wondered how such a nice dog became a stray, and we think we may have figured it out. He is inclined to try to dash away to anything that might amuse him, a local construction worker, an animal (and we have bears around here) anything that gets his attention. We always use due care when walking him, and of course he is on a lead. Our community is a private one, and although it doesn't have gates, nearly all of the traffic is that of our residents. We really pay special attention to his interests whenever he walks with us.
There is another piece of "baggage" he brought with him. He won't retrieve his "kong" or anything else if it goes into a corner in the living room if there are electric wires around. Perhaps he got hurt biting into a plugged-in wire one time.
He eats well, morning and evening, and has put on both weight and stature. We watch to see that he does not get overweight. His coat is glorious and he has been much admired by our friends and neighbors.
He had a chip put in his shoulder right after we got him home, and he has his name and address on him as well as the required dog license. We want to be sure he never gets lots again.
But is HE happy? He sleeps in our bedroom and on special occasions on our bed. He has the whole house, upstairs and downstairs to run about it. He prefers to sleep on the landing during the day where he can keep track of all of us. He has only been left in the house alone on a couple of occasions when we were invited to friends' houses for dinner. Outside of that he is with us always always. He goes for walks two or more times a day. He has his own little rug to chew on (he's just a pup and will grow out of chewing, we hope) He has at least 3 "kongs", gifts from friends and relatives.
We'd like to know if there is a dog training school in Florence, or within a reasonable distance. All of us could use some professional instruction on dog training. He is a very active and enthusiastic pup, and we want to be sure he continues to understand that he is the dog and we are his superiors!
This is a rather long reply to a simple question from you, but perhaps it will convey the message that it was a good match!
Sincerely,
Joyce and Carlo
