Golden Retriever Rescue
For the Love of Goldens
Hi, I'm Ranger (#452). I have a stray dog story with a very happy "new beginning". I think I'm between 12 months and two years old. I was really skinny when I was found roaming Highway 99W near Dundee, OR. Many of you know 99W can be a very busy and dangerous road. Fortunately, a nice couple found me and tried to locate my family. I couldn't help much because I didn't have any dog tags. I didn't have an ID chip either and no one posted signs saying I was lost or notified the local animal shelters and news papers. I was lost, lonely, confused and very scared. Now that I have been saved from the streets, I love having a warm place to sleep and good food to eat. I have already gained 5 pounds.
The nice couple couldn't keep me so they took me to a vet clinic in Newberg, OR. The vet clinic couldn't locate my family either so they contacted the good people at Golden Bond Rescue to find me a new home. Golden Bond made sure I got my shots and was neutered. I don't know what that was all about but they say it is good for me. My foster dad, Mike, brought me into his home. There I met Shelby, Mike's Golden Retriever/Australian Shepherd mix. Shelby and I have become best buddies. We play tug-of-war with my rope toys and wrestle in the back yard. One day Shelby and I played chase and wrestled in the back yard so much Mike had to give us both a bath to get all the mud and dirt out of our coats. It was so much fun! Mike didn't think much of it though. I also like Kitty, Mike's cat. He doesn't seem to like me though. Kitty keeps whacking me on the nose when I get too close. I just want Kitty to play with me.
My foster dad loves seeing how well Shelby and I get along and I especially love being in Mike's lap when he is watching TV. Who said Goldens can't be lap dogs? Well, this brings me to the best part of the story. Recently my foster dad, Mike, told me he would love to have me as a permanent member of the family. Wow, how exciting! It has been only a few months since I was saved from that dangerous highway being so close to a tragic end. How could I say no? I have so many people to thank, beginning with the nice couple that found me along 99W, the people at the vet clinic that helped try to find my original home and Golden Bond Rescue for keeping me safe and giving me a very happy new beginning.
