For the Love of Goldens
Martha (#472) has gone to live with Andy and Ellen and their son Steven in Portland. Lucky (#440) was lucky enough to find this family earlier this year. Now Martha now known as Maddie has gone to become Lucky's playmate and the second "lucky" golden in the house. Her first night home is relayed by her new family.
"All went REALLY well. She slept in Steven's room and Lucky stayed with Ellen and me. About 9:15 last night, we heard LOTS of growling and barking!! We ran downstairs to find Lucky and Maddie wrestling and running through the house, tails a waggin'!!! I put them outside and they played chase for a few minutes. Then they had to come in for lots of water. Needless to say, I had to get up at midnight to water both of them!!!"
May they have many happy play years ahead. Merry Christmas to all from Golden Bond.
Latest Update: December 29, 2003

Hello everyone at Golden Bond!!
Just want to give you an update on our 2 adoptees!!
We got "Lucky" with adopting a wonderful boy. We adopted him in late August. He is a beautiful dark red. Lucky was an immediate hit with our family. He has a great personality and loves to play and be petted. He forgets that he isn't a lap dog and frequently plops his 90+ pounds in your lap until your legs fall asleep. He has a great disposition and gets along well with our 9 year old son as well as us.
In early December we were fortunate enough to adopt a "sister" for Lucky. We saw Martha on the Golden Bond Rescue website and thought that she might make a great companion for Lucky. She came over for a home visit with her foster family. She was very comfortable with Lucky and our home. After thoughtful deliberation (about 2 minutes of discussion and a unanimous vote) we called Martha's foster mom and said that we'd love to add Martha to our family. She is a pretty, curly light blonde with long eyelashes.
We renamed Martha "Maddison" "Maddie" for short. She instantly became best friends with our son and claimed his bed for her evening sleeping spot. Lucky sleeps in our room and Maddie sleeps in Steven's room. This works out really well as it cuts down on their nightly wrestling matches. Maddie and Lucky play together throughout the day playing tug of war, chase and "who can slobber the other best" until both of them fall over with exhaustion and snore until they've regained their energy. They enjoy long walks together, playing games of fetch, eating bones, playing tug of war and sleeping. Maddie has a funny habit of picking up (stealing) shoes, socks, towels, gloves, underwear and anything else she can get her mouth around. She doesn't chew them she just rearranges them in the house making it a game of treasure hunt for us.
Thank you Golden Bond Rescue for a lifetime of memories and for helping us complete our family.
All the best,
Ellen, Andy, Steven, Lucky and Maddie Whitten
