Success Story: Chauncy (#493)

Adopted June 2004

ChauncyChauncy (#493) now lives in Yachats with Deb and Ray, 9 year old canine Sam and a number of kritters of the feline persuasion. Nothing says it better than the update we received from his new family.

We had the normal first day adjustment period and the "what were we thinking day" but all has smoothed out. Chauncy has bonded well with us, Sam and the cats, no aggression or possessiveness. I just finished a goofy play session with him and now he's sacked for a few hours. This is a hilly property so he gets quite a workout but with much help. He's been to sandy beaches a couple times and loves the flat sand.

In particular, Kona, a purebred Persian who arrived here with his mama from a neglect situation in K-Falls 2/03, has developed a sweet friendship with Chauncy, nothing can get Chauncy's tail wagging more than a nose rub from Kona. Kona is barely 5 pounds, his 7 year old mama is only 3-1/2 pounds. Also Pyro, our black, cross-eyed, partially deaf cat who came to us with badly burned paws and oversized fangs, curls up in Chauncy's front paws.

Chauncy is a REAL geezer but we relate to old guys well. From our past experience, we're assuming Chaunce has a heart condition along with his dysplasia/arthritis, he may not have a lot of time. But whatever time he does have, we promise to do the best we can to give him a quality of life. Our hope is to establish a relationship with Golden Bond and thru the years as one passes on, we'll be able adopt another senior who's cat friendly.

Again, thank you! Chauncy is in his final home, it was a long journey but he is well loved and whether he lasts one month or a couple of years, we're very happy to have him with us. Take care and keep doing the work you do.

And Golden Bond wants to express its deep appreciation for the love of seniors expressed by Chauncey's new family. Isn't that rescue in its truest sense? Thank you Deb and Ray.

Update October 16, 2004

ChauncyWe just wanted to let you know that Chauncy (more often known as Og) celebrated his 4 month anniversary with us yesterday.

Og has trained us well and has enjoyed a great summer on the coast. Several of the cats adore him and he's given our long-term dog new vitality. He loves his truck and unless forced out will usually remain on his big bed in the back for hours after returning home, it's like his own little apartment.

Rimadyl hasn't worked wonders on him as it did for several of our former dysplasia dogs but it keeps him going and every once in awhile he'll surprise us with a good gallop and happy chew on an arm.

Thanks again for all your good work. We check your site often and know that when the time comes there will be another Chauncy in our life. Thanks too for allowing us to bring this big guy into our family.

Deb & Ray along with Sam and the cat crew
