Adopted February 2004
Buddy (#497) is now Baker. Oh, and Buddy has a new forever home too!!! Brian, Renae and little Maddy just fell in love with Buddy when they met him. They wanted to keep Buddy then and there. Fortunately they were able to wait until today before welcoming Buddy into their hearts and home. When I brought Buddy over this morning, Maddy had a picture of her and Buddy she drew last night to give me. She told me I had to put it on my refrigerator. That was so cute. I just know we have made a perfect match here.

And from Buddy's new family...
I just wanted to update you a little on Baker/Buddy (#497). He is a wonderful dog (of course... Golden) and is adjusting to our family quite well. The first night he wanted to sleep in his crate, much to the dismay of our almost 5 year old daughter Maddy. She so wanted him to sleep on her bed. We told her that he was just getting used to us and it might take awhile. Awhile was wrong... one more night in his crate then the next night he slept on the floor beside her bed and last night he was smack dab in the middle of her queen size bed hogging all the room. (She complained only for a moment then just gave up and was thrilled that he was there.) I don't think we will ever get him back into the crate! Yea! Anyway, we are trying to teach him some manners and he is doing great. We gave him so many chew toys he didn't know what to do, but after chewing most of them he has settled on a bone and a rope toy. (We love a Golden with a rope hanging out of his mouth.) We will be introducing him to tennis balls soon and trying him out on the "Frisbee" (which our dear Riley 10/23/03 loved). We have laughed ourselves silly in the 5 days that we have had him. We have found out that he is crazy about his reflection and sees his toy sitting beside him in the window and scratches and paws at it even though it is sitting right beside him. Thus, my oven door now has newspaper taped to the front and the sliding glass door has a large piece of cardboard covering most of it. It is hard to remember that he is a puppy since he is so big and looks so much like our other Golden did. He sat on one of his squeaky toys while scratching and scared himself to death. My daughter and I laughed so hard I think he was embarrassed! We as a family have adjusted to him quite well. We now eat things standing up. Maddy eats things while sitting on the counter or while continuously turning in a circle away from the long tongue. I only put lotion on when in the bathroom with the door closed. Maddy loves to play on her computer in the office, but now has to be careful when backing up since there usually is a big yellow fur ball asleep behind her. I have found my upper arm (yes only one) getting stronger from the 65 lbs. of pulling he does while going for walks and chasing passing leaves. All in all, we are now whole again and thankful to have such a wonderful addition to our family. We will all be healthier (walking the park at least two times a day) and Maddy will soon have her training wheels off her bike from riding along beside us.
I just wanted you to know how the last 5 days have been. We will keep in touch and let you know how life is, but for now it is all GOLDEN!
Sincerely,
Renae, Brian, Maddy and Baker (Buddy)
Update: March 27, 2004
Yes, Baker is still sleeping right in the middle of Maddy's bed snoring away louder than her. Between the two of them I can't get to sleep! We usually all put Maddy to bed and read a book, then Brian and I go to bed and watch TV and Baker joins us. Then when we go to bed he goes back to Maddy's room and guards her all night. He is really a sweet dog and fitting right into our family. Thanks so much for letting us have him. He is wonderfully golden.
