Caliber #1870

Adopted August 05, 2009

1870_caliber_1Could we foster an 11-year-old dog with seizures and perhaps mobility problems? Don and I thought we could cope with that situation for a little while, knowing that our Abbie and Bear dogs would be kind to this sad-sounding old guy, and he’d have a comfortable home until someone might want to adopt him.

Within just a few weeks, Caliber #1870 became a member of our family – he stole our hearts and minds and became a regular fixture on the daily walks around campus and in the community. Caliber’s energy level increased almost immediately as he playfully ran through the fields, far ahead of the others. He bonded with all of us and became Don’s constant companion, almost never leaving his side. He is as bright as a shiny new penny and understands everything we say to him. “It would take a very special family to adopt Cal,” we reminded ourselves daily. “We have to be sure everything is just right for this sweet guy.”

Somewhere along the way it dawned upon both of us that Caliber already had a special family right here, so we admitted we flunked Foster 501, and took the steps to adopting this wonderful guy.

Caliber is the first one to the door for his daily 2-1/2 mile walk (and run). He enjoys the beach and bounds into the surf on our trips to the coast. He loves everybody and gets along well with dogs and cats. We’ve been sure his medicine is given on a regular schedule, and he has been seizure-free. He’s given us unconditional love and many reasons to laugh every day. What could be better than that?
