Nikita #1803

Adopted January 14, 2009

1803_nikita_1Hello there!! I'm Nikita #1803, but you can call me Nikki. I'm a beautiful 8 year girl who has stumbled into a great home. Somehow I was put into the Golden Bond foster system. I'm not sure what that means. All I know is I was put with a new Mom and Dad and a crazy golden retriever sister called Cinnamon. We hit it off really well. I got comfortable here really quickly. That is unusual for me, as I get very nervous in new situations. However, I LOVE going for car rides. I don't stick my head out the window like crazy Cinnamon, but I do love looking out the window and watching the world go by.

My new sister, Cinnamon, like I said is crazy. But we have learned how to play together, and it is fun! We play rough house, play tug-a-war and chase. Overall she is a great sister, did I mention she is crazy? When I first arrived here, Cinnamon kept telling me that I would soon move on to a new Mamma and Daddy, just like all nine other foster sister/brothers she has had in the past. I didn't like that one bit. She really liked to stress that I would get a new Daddy. Since I decided I was staying in the house, I was afraid Daddy would have to leave. I kept telling her "Daddy can stay!" And stay he did. I think he stayed because of my beautiful eyes!! Momma and Daddy told me that I am here forever. Doesn't that have a nice ring to it!! Thank you Golden Bond for Momma and Daddy and even Cinnamon.

Love, Nikki!

Memorial for Nikita #1803

1803_nikita_2I am sorry to report that our beloved Nikki (formerly Nikita #1803), whom we became foster failures with, suddenly passed away on Thursday. Cyn and I are pretty devastated, as is our dog Cinnamon. She was doing so great. No obvious health issues. She had been so happy, smiling all the time and still active. She was still chunky, but had lost about 5-10 lbs. Wednesday she was begging at the dinner table, playing with Cinnamon, was being her normal sweet self. Then at 4:30am on Thursday she was woke us up panting heavily. At first we thought she was just trying to wake us up a little early for breakfast, as we normally start waking up at 5:15am. However when we got up to check on her, she was on floor panting heavily, not trying to move. By 5:10am the panting stopped. We rushed her to the emergency vet, but she had passed away before I even had lifted her up to carry her to the car.

She was the sweetest dog. Her big eyes, and how she would "pet" us to try to get us to pet her. We took her in just before Thanksgiving last year. I still remember picking her up form Darlene's Kennel in Milwaukie. She did really like car rides. She had grown to absolutely love going for rides. She'd do her happy dance if I mentioned going for a ride. She loved watching the world go by. She would get so happy to see us come home. She'd trot like a little bear cub when she'd run to greet us. She bonded with my wife especially and she and Cinnamon bonded like sisters. When Cinnamon was scared during a fireworks show when we were near Disneyland, Nikki curled up with her to console her.

I don't understand why she was suddenly taken from us. The vet's only thought was a possible Golden Retriever prone cancer that is usually non-detectable and can lead to a rupture of some sort and takes a dog's life quite suddenly.

I have attached a photo of her with Cinnamon in the backseat of our car from the end of August. I do thank GBR for bringing Nikki to us, and we miss her terribly.
