Max #1835
Crossed the Rainbow Bridge March 28, 2012

On March 28, 2012 our dear old friend Max, #1835 gracefully crossed over the Rainbow Bridge having suddenly and unexpectedly succumbed to primary liver cancer. For the past three years Jenny and I had the opportunity to share our life with an energetic, free spirited, wily, independent, and sweet character we called “Max”. Whether carrying one of his many stuffed animals in his mouth on his multiple daily walks, thrashing his stuffed animals during endless battles of tug-a-war or his never ending demands for carrots Max’s enduring personality will be forever missed. It brought us immense joy and happiness to watch Max run wild, dig, fetch sticks, and swim on the beaches of Lake Superior and to frolic, roll around, and dig massive holes in snow during the winter season. Max’s passing has left a tremendous void in our hearts that can never be replaced. Rest in peace “Sweet Boy” Maxie, you left us too soon. We love you.

Adopted March 17, 2009
As we adopted Max#1835 about a month and a half ago. Max was found as a stray in December and was in pretty rough shape at the time. He had suffered through Salmon poisoning and was skin and bones from the pictures shown to us. He also had gone through some sort of traumatic accident that left him blind in his left eye and with several broken and jagged teeth on the same side.
Through the rest of the winter Max was cared for by Diana, his foster mom. In that three months Max had a oral surgery to remove several broken teeth, and he gained back the weight lost due to the Salmon poisoning.
In mid March when Max came into our home, we were fortunate to have an pretty easy adjustment. Max's house manners are excellent, he hasn't destroyed anything, and he came to us trained on several commands by his foster mom. Max looooooooves to go on walks and gets to go on them at least twice a day. When we get home, Max is sooo excited we're home and we're going for a walk that he does this little thing we like to call "tap dancing" where his feet just sort of start fluttering up and down uncontrollably. He has enjoyed several swimming trips to the Fern Ridge Reservoir, and he is quit the swimmer. Max also loves his toys, especially bones. Max's version of fetch is more like we throw the ball, he gets it, he brings it back, and instead of dropping the ball he struts past us to show off what he got.
Although we usually stay away from offering human food to Max, we have found that he is very fond of Asparagus and Carrots and he always makes his way to the kitchen when they are out. This won't come to as a surprise to any dog owner, but Max's favorite thing in the world is a belly rub. He has a way of casually coming up to us to get petted, then slowly working his way down to the ground, and before you know it he is belly side up with his feet dangling in the air, and he has gotten in position for a belly rub. I think Max's ideal life would be just one big everlasting belly rub.
It has been such a treat to have Max around, we have greatly enjoyed learning his ways over the past month and a half. We feel very lucky to have gotten a dog like Max and we are so happy we can give him a good home after the rough times he has had. We would like to thank Diana for fostering Max before he came to us. She invested a lot of love, time, and energy into healing and training him. Also we would like to give much thanks to Golden Bond Rescue for taking in this dog that was in such dismal health, for investing so much financially for his health and medical needs, and in turn giving him a second shot at life. We are so happy to have Max in our lives, and if he could I'm sure Max would say "Thank you Golden Bond!"
