Toby #2061 became a member of our family on October 3, 2010. We decided that would be his 4th birthday, too. He gets along great with his sister Dori and brother Calhoun – they have definitely shown Toby the ropes and helped him to settle in to our routine.

It didn’t take long for Toby’s personality to shine through. He is a big love bug, gives us many kisses, wants to show you his toys, asks for lots of tummy and back rubs, and gets very excited for his walks and rides in the truck. He has also found his voice, which we weren’t sure he had at first, but now we definitely know! He alerts us when someone is at the door and shows his displeasure if Calhoun is getting too rowdy.

Toby was 108 pounds when he first came home. His low energy and docile manner was more like a senior dog. He lumbered slowly up the stairs and struggled on long walks. But a month later, he has lost some weight, has a spring in his step and a song in his heart, and you can’t believe how he flies up those stairs now! With this new found energy, sometimes Toby doesn’t realize just how big he still is. He gets a little stuck if he tries to go through a doorway before the door is opened all the way, and he often knocks into us as he passes by. When Calhoun and Toby run around the yard, sometimes Toby will stop short and Calhoun crashes into him – it’s like running into a brick wall. Calhoun gets up in a daze and needs a moment to shake it off before they’re back at it. Dori likes to be their referee, and sometimes she calls a “time out” so she can get into the action, too!

We miss our Teddy very much, but are grateful to have Toby in our lives. He is a sweet, sensitive, and special boy – thank you, Kathleen, for taking such good care of him and giving us the opportunity to be Toby’s forever family.
