Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon

Chabo #1565 came home with me and my two dogs (Peaches and Buddy) on my birthday, May 26. It has been a very smooth transition. He was very calm in the car for the 2.5 hour ride and was very calm when we got home. He seemed to bond to me very quickly. He and Peaches are very well suited to each other. She is a husky/collie mix, and they are about the same size and temperment.  They have had their squabbles, but it's just a bunch of noise and ends very quickly.

When he arrived, we changed Chabo's name to Dillon (which means "loyal companion" in Gaelic).  Dillon had a few bad habits: barking, pulling on the leash to the point where he gagged and choked, mouthing fairly hard, and very nervous with strangers wearing hats and sunglasses. I am happy to report that he no longer pulls on the leash, he rarely mouths, his barking is greatly reduced (although we are still working on that one) and he is far more easy going around strangers.

He is a sweet and loving dog. He has learned to go to his crate on command, to sit and wait until he gets the ok to eat his meal, and to lie down. We are thrilled to have him in our family. He is almost a year old now, and as he matures it is clear that he is predominatly a golden. People just fall in love with him because he is affectionate without being pushy, and it is clear that he is smart as a whip. We could not be more pleased, and we thank Golden Bond Rescue for helping us make this incredible creature a part of our lives.

Chabo's Available Story

Hi, my name is Dillon, which is Gaelic for "loyal companion", and my foster mom agrees that this name is right for me (I used to be called Chabo #1565). I am an almost 5-year-old Golden Retriever/Border Collie mix. Although I do have some Border Collie, it's hard to tell because I look and act just like a Golden. I am a medium-sized boy and weigh about 65 pounds. 

I have had some professional training and know many commands. I will rest in my crate if asked, although I would prefer to hang out with you. I LOVE going for walks — I get so excited that all four of my feet come off the ground. I have been to the beach, and can't believe a swimming pool that big exists! I get along fine with the two small dogs and two Goldens at my foster home. I also put up with the resident cat.

I have been going for rides in the car without being crated, and I am getting used to that. I learned to use the doggie door; now I go in and out like I have always had one. I have not been around kids — I would probably be better with older children (like teenagers over 14).

I am ready for my forever home. I would love to sleep next to your bed and spend all of my time with you. If you were my buddy, I would even remind you to pet my head by singing a song for you! I hope you will think of me!
