Lucy's Available Story

2146_lucy_1Hey, looking for a dog? I think you just found one! Looking for a companion? You just found one of those too! My name is Lucy (#2146), and I am the best companion dog you will ever meet.

I love my people. I like to be close to them and absolutely love to be petted and loved. This does not mean that I am pushy or demanding; I just stay close by and occasionally put my head in your lap for attention. I walk nicely on leash and pay close attention to our surroundings. At 7 years old and about 80 pounds, I still have plenty of energy for walking, hiking, and adventure. I would not do well with a jogger or runner. I don't have the focus to just keep moving without taking in the sights and smells.

I know many commands, but sometimes I'll try to ignore you to get my own way. A firm voice and a repeated command will tell me you mean business, and I will comply. I would do best as an only dog since that is what I am used to. I am currently living with another female Golden, a male Golden mix, and a little Doxy-Chihuahua girl. We all get along fine, but they keep me a little on edge. I have lived with small children, but I think older ones would be best. As for cats, I don't hate them but am interested in finding out what makes them tick.

Lucy #2146Let's talk about FOOD, yes I said FOOD! I love my food, your food, any food. My foster mom says that I am way beyond food-motivated and well on the way to food-obsessed. When she sweeps the kitchen, I keep my nose to the floor to be sure there is no precious food down there. When she puts plates and dishes on the counter, I get right up there to check for any stray bites. Mom has to be very careful not to leave anything on the counters or the garbage uncovered since I must patrol regularly and consume anything I find.

There is one other little secret that I should share with you. Although my mom was a beautiful Golden Retriever, my dad was a Lab. He was a great guy but not a Golden. I am the color and temperament of Mom's side of the family, but most of my coat is very Lab-like. I do have a very stunning 4-inch wide "stripe" down my back that is longer and very wavy.

If you are looking for the best companion dog ever, come see me! You won't be disappointed!
