Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon

Sugar #2090 (now Penny) came into our lives in November of 2010 over the Thanksgiving Holiday. She  is about 4 years old and a smaller Golden - about 60 lbs. She was found in The Dalles in a parking lot. Golden Bond Rescue worked on clearing up some skin issues (ongoing) and did some tooth work before she came to our home. We were looking for an older dog but when she came into our lives, she fit right in. Many people comment on how calm she is. She is a constant companion for our family: going to work in the morning; barking at Dad if we are 5 minutes late; barking and pacing at the door if Mom goes down the block to our neighbors house were Penny's buddy Marley (Yellow lab) lives; and hiking & snowshoeing. She will go in the water if there are ducks to swim after, but it’s not her favorite thing. We did have to teach her to retrieve balls - a few treats turn her into a real Golden Retriever; however, if you run out of treats, she will pick up her ball and walk away.

Penny loves to go with us. Car rides to Bend are no problem. Maybe she knows when we get to Bend there will be squirrel chasing. One thing she is focused on is chasing (and catching) squirrels. We think this may be why she got separated from her previous owners. When she is on a scent, she is very focused. The rest of the time Penny has very good manners. Coming instantly, plus she sits and stays very nicely. But if there is a small animal then look out!

We did have an unfortunate incident when Penny counter surfed the Christmas dinner. That Hawaiian pulled pork was just too much temptation. And then there was the pet rabbit incident….other than that… Penny has brought so much joy to our home after we lost our 15.5 y/o Golden (Buster). Her tail starts wagging the minute we get up and continues all day long.
