Goldie #2163

Adopted October 3, 2011

Goldie 2163I have had English Springer Spaniels all my life. Fourteen in all. Several of our friends have (or have had) Golden Retrievers, but changing breeds is like changing from Campbell’s Soup to Progressive Soup... it’s just hard to do. My first introduction to Golden Bond Rescue was when my mother was in a nursing home in Wilsonville and a nice gentleman, Jon, would come in each Monday morning with his rescued Golden Retriever, Lizzy Mae. I usually tried to visit my mom on Monday mornings so I too could see Lizzy Mae. Jon gave me a Golden Bond Rescue business card which I’ve held onto for 5 years.

In July my beloved Springer, Katie died at age 14, leaving a huge emptiness in my life.  We have another Springer, Abby, who is now 8 years old. She has a special relationship with my husband, John. She worships him! She’s all business when it comes to playing... life for her is all about leaping for frisbees and running to retrieve tennis balls. Katie was a couch potato from day one.

After Katie died, we weren’t sure we would get another dog just yet. We had been sharing Abby with our daughter, Kristina. Nights mostly at Kristina’s house, days at our house.  I dug out my Golden Bond Rescue business card one day and looked at their website. There were several we were interested in, so decided to fill out the application and see what developed. The whole process went quite quickly, so when we were approved, we seriously started looking at available dogs. Four of the ones we looked at already were taken. John suggested that I should look at Goldie (#2163), who is 10 years old. A 10 year old?  Goldie’s foster mom called us to tell us more about her than the bio on the website. Sweet natured, velcro dog. Very appealing, but a 10 year old?  I still wasn’t sure. We drove over to eastern Oregon to meet Goldie on our way to visit our son in Utah. She was indeed sweet and mellow.  We said yes on the spot and would plan to pick her up in 4 days on our way back home.

We showed up Monday morning with the required dog tag that we purchased in Utah with our contact info on it, signed papers, got our instructions, a bag of food and she jumped in the car after hugs and kisses from her foster mom. She sat up looking out the window for many miles. This was way too easy!

We arrived at our daughter’s house where Goldilocks met Abby at the nearby park. All went well there. We drove to our house and gave Goldilocks the basic tour:  water bowl here, back yard out that door. That’s all she needed!  She’s thrilled to go for walks and car rides, but just as pleased to curl up on the sofa with me. Goldilocks did have to adjust to one rule we have in this house. Teeth get brushed twice a day, whether you have 2 legs or 4 legs. Poultry flavored toothpaste has helped ease her into the daily brushing routine. We now share both the dogs with Kristina, each night we have a different dog spend the night with us. Goldilocks was and continues to be way too easy, a true joy and benefit of adopting a senior!  She’s just a sweetheart!

Goldie's Available Story

Goldie 2163Goldie (#2163) My name is Goldie and I am a 10 year old, Golden Retriever mix. I am very sweet and I love to be close to you -  hanging out in the yard while you garden or go for walks are two of may favorite things. I lived with my former owner all my life, and stayed next to her, until she passed away. My foster mom says I bond really well, whatever that means. I get along with my foster siblings and other dogs that come to visit. I play-bark at her cats, so a cat-free home would be better! I walk well on a leash, love to ride in the car, and love to be brushed followed by tummy rubs.

I  love to play with all sorts of dog toys, and proudly carry them around the yard; however, if one of the other dogs wants my toy, I will drop it for them. My mom and I take turns chasing each other sometimes. Such great fun! I also know commands such as sit, down and go to bed.

Really young kids make me nervous, so I'd rather be in a home without kids or at least with kids who won't poke at me or try to hang on me. My health is great for an older dog. I just had a much needed teeth cleaning, so I am ready for my forever home. I know I'm not a classic beauty but I have lots of love to give. Could I give it to you?
