Duke #2177
Adopted September 25, 2011
Duke was adopted last Sunday, what a love! He amazed me that at close to 14 years old he could navigate stairs (I had put in ramps, but he was having none of it). He is independent which is why he is still on this planet. He lets nothing get him down - the true Golden Spirit. I live on 2 fenced acres, so he gets to wander as he pleases under my supervision. The other day, I didn't see him lying in his favorite spot, and looked out in the front pasture. There he was dining on deer poop. I had to explain to him that Mom served two good square meals a day with vitamins, but he wanted a snack … yuck!!! Anyway, he is happy. We found a few small problems at the vet (incidentally, they all fell in love with him). When they were looking for lumps and bumps, he thought he was getting a massage and grinned with pleasure. He is lying here next to me on a throw rug while I type on the computer. Thank You. He is in his forever home … Oh,he is the red butt between my other two Goldies eating dinner. He loves his sister Sara (11) and sister Kandy (10) - he now has a harem!
Duke's Available Story
Hi. My name is Duke, #2177. I’m 13. In my old life I had to stay in the patio on a short lead. When I got to my foster home I looked at the back yard and couldn’t believe it was all mine! My foster Mom & Dad say I have a weight issue (I say I’m big boned). The vet weighed me when I came in and the scale said 70 lbs but I look bigger - maybe it is because of my beautiful coat of fur!
I walk my foster owners almost every day. My first several days a quarter mile with a rest stop was hard. Now we are doing a mile. It takes a while because I have my own pace. I’m a stop and smell the flowers guy, then I have to stop everyone on the trail to get a good rub. As I get into shape I’m finding it easier to move around. I got in the car all by myself the other day, but I don’t like getting out. The car seat is just fine. And my Golden sister hogs the window.
I’m learning to chase a ball. My Golden sister goes crazy for ball throwing and she is pretty fast. I’m more of an ambler. If she gets my ball I still come looking for my treat though.
Like most seniors with AARP cards I have some issues. My hearing isn’t as good as it used to be. And my back end doesn’t work as well as it used to. Sometimes I get stuck on the tile or wood floors but with just a little help up I’m good to go. I leave stair work for the gym people. A couple stairs are OK, I guess. But a whole flight? No way dude. As far as come, sit & stay? Those sound like suggestions to me. But, not to worry, I'm always checking on my family.
I like being with my people. It feels so good to be loved. I’ve never had that. If my people are out of sight I need to go check on them and maybe get some affection. As you can see from the pictures, I love to smile and love to have a toy. I’m still learning about how wonderful people can be. If you have room in your heart and in your home, it would be great to have a forever home with you.
