Maddie #1127

1127_Maddie_1Adopted January 6th, 2010

The first week or so was a little rough because Mattie (Maddie #1127) has a sensitive tummy, and a new house, new humans, and new food made her a little unsettled in the digestion department. But her adjustment in our home was very easy because of her sweet and undemanding nature and her amazing ability to blend right in with her new family. We were amazed that she traveled the 300 miles to her new home with strangers and never complained and never acted at all scared or distressed.

Mattie displays all the best qualities of Goldens. She is eager to do the right thing. She wants to understand what the routine is in her new house and seems to understand everything we tell her to do. A mind reader, Mattie is. She loves to cuddle and is finally losing that velcro behavior where she wants to follow us everywhere, all the time. She is comfortable enough to go into another room, away from the humans, when she's tired and wants to go to bed. She's perfectly content being left alone in the house, but she'd rather be in the car while we go for short trips. She curls up on the back seat and sleeps while we go about our business. Yes, I know this can happen only in the winter. But for now, she loves coming along for the ride.

She is a gentle, empathetic soul. She knows when to be quiet and when to play. She knows when to cuddle and when to back off, like when the humans are having a meal. She has NEVER done anything wrong. No counter surfing, no accidents in the house, no getting on furniture unless invited. She rarely barks, only when she hears a funny noise outside. If the doorbell rings, she's quiet and wags her luxurious tail because it may mean somebody fun is coming to visit.

It's amazing what a great fit Mattie is for our family. I can't imagine life without her sweet presence, even though I thought it would be difficult to recover from the loss of two of our beloved Goldens in the last year. But sweet Mattie given us back so much of that love and joy we missed. Thank you, Golden Bond.
