Gloria #1986
Adopted Feb 23rd, 2010
Hello this is Gloria (1986), now Belle.
As you can see by the picture, this is a very happy couple! Charlie lost his Golden Bond dog, Sara, to a broken hip which was not fixable due to her age, she crossed the Rainbow Bridge in the arms or her loving owner. Charlie, like many of us, is lost without a four legged friend following him around so needed a new special friend.
Gloria, who is now Belle, is the lucky lady who has filled this need. She is happily the only dog in her new home which is devoted entirely to her. This is quite a nice change from her foster home where she was one of five dogs. Little Belle was a stray who came to Golden Bond with some medical needs but lots of love to give and she has found the perfect owner to give her all.
Belle doesn't have other dogs vying for attention but there are two cats and backyard chickens. She is trying to learn not to bark at the chickens but at this point it is just too much fun and a little chasing doesn't hurt either. The small pond in the backyard is too big of a temptation not to get in daily so toweling down is a daily occurrence. Walks have always been one of her fun things to do beside riding in the car and she gets to do these daily also.
So life is good for both Charlie and Belle, a match made in heaven as they say. And Belle certainly agrees. This has been a great beginning to a wonderful life!
From Gloria's owner (update)
First, I must let you know Gloria is now Bella . I am told in Spanish the name means Old lady. I believe in her former life, Bella never had the opportunity to be a young lady. She acts like a year old teenager. She's learning about balls and stuffed toys and plays with them with delight. She has bonded with me and wants to keep track of my every move. It has been said that she probably came out of a breeding kennel, so she is some what insecure and wants constant reassurance of my love and an abundance of attention.
She is very good with people but my challenge now is to deal with her fear of other dogs. I had one lesson at the humane society which taught me how to train her, how to deal with her fear reaction, and that she is not aggressive. I am following the instructions from a book titled "Feisty Fido, Help For the Leash-Reactive Dog" by Patricia B. McConnell, pH.D. My hope is to correct the trauma she feels when she encounters a unfamiliar dog. McConnell states it will take at least three months of training for results. During the time that I have been working with her I have had bits of success. I have found that I am the one who is the hardest to respond to trauma encounters. I am totally committed to turning her around.
Bella is about seven years old and I hope to have many more years of love and companionship . Thank you Golden Bond Rescue.
