Mabelline #1854

1854_Maybelline_1Adopted December 5th, 2009

Hey everyone! My name is Maybelline (1854) Harrison! I was so excited the day I got my first full name! I had been at my home for three and a half weeks, but for some reason, I was still Maybelline #1854. It was okay with me, but I like Harrison a LOT better than those silly numbers. I probably had to have them for a reason, but that’s probably pretty complicated, and I like my new uncomplicated life.

So for those of you who don’t know about me, I came from an awful place. My people have said it is called a puppy mill and it was in Burns, Oregon.. When I first came into the rescue program, I was terrified of everything. I couldn’t do any of the “normal” dog stuff that I love doing so much. I was always worried that things were going to hurt me. I was terrified of absolutely everything. But things have changed. I went to this awesome place called a foster home, and my friend there, and her dog Murphy helped me so much over the three-ish months I was there, but we both knew that that was a temporary stop in my life.

1854_Maybelline_2One Monday night, these two people and a dog came to visit me. I was terrified to say the least. If I hadn’t had my leash on, I would not have been anywhere near them. I wasn’t scared because I didn’t like them, but because I didn’t know them and trust them. After a little while, and a walk, we all went back to my foster home. The people were all talking, and they left. Two days later the two people came back and picked me up. I knew then, that I would have to trust them, because they were my forever home. That night I slept in my crate in the dining room, while everyone else was in their rooms. This wouldn’t last for long. The next night, my friend Cassie, led me to her room, which is where I have slept ever since with my sisters Copper the Canine and Perkins, which is one of those cat things people like for some reason.

I have done so many new and exciting things since I got here! I learned that I really, really love walks. I knew I liked them, but now I get so excited and I dance around and hop when I hear my leash! Another thing, is car rides! Sometimes Cassie will take us on car rides and we will get to go somewhere we have never been before and walk! It is scary, but with Copper, I know I am safe. One day, we went on a really long walk by a river, and it was raining (if I haven’t mentioned yet, I LOVE THE RAIN AND WATER!) and Cassie let Copper and me go swimming. Needless to say, we got a little dirty. I had to take a bath when I got home. This was my first bath in the month or two I had been at my home. I didn’t quite know what to do, so I did what any lady would do in a warm tub of water, I laid down! I hope that they send the picture of me with this letter, because, I must say, I am awfully darn cute in it.

1854_Maybelline_3A few weeks after that, I started to get stinky and need a real dog bath. Cassie hooked me and Copper up and took us to a public dog bath, with other people and other dogs. It was really, really scary, but Copper stayed in the tub with me, and I liked the water. And boy is it a good thing I got a bath that day, because I had to go shopping for the first time the next day at Pet Smart to get a big chew toy bone! Am I a busy girl or what!

Speaking of busy, one day after my friend Cassie got off of work at Wags! Her mom Cindy and her took Copper and I on a new adventure to somewhere I had never been before, it was called the beach. I was so excited and had so much fun there! Cassie got me a really long leash so that if I got scared I wouldn’t get lost accidentally because they love me and I love them but when I get scared I can run without really thinking too much and that wouldn’t be very good. I had so much fun and when the waves would come up to me I would just stand there being cute.

Speaking of Wags! I go to work there now! Well Cassie does all of the hard labor really, Copper and I just hang around being helper dogs which really don’t help very much but mainly just get in the way being cute. Jody, a GB volunteer owns Wags in Eugene, Oregon so it works really well when Cassie goes in on the weekend mornings with me coming along being a GB dog.

I just love being able to relax with my friend Copper, and our people Cassie and Cindy. They are so great to us! I just love it here and wouldn’t want to ever be anywhere else! I am just so grateful for the opportunity which Golden Bond has given me to start my new life. I am still really afraid of a lot of things, but I am overcoming these fears with love and patience.

From Cassie and Cindy: We just love our Maybee girl! She has been such a wonderful dog to watch grow, and to think of where she was when she came to us, and where she is now, is just amazing. She still has some work to do but in our minds she is one of the best two dogs in the world. We are so grateful for how awesome everyone at Golden Bond is and how much her foster mom Kathleen helped us. Thank you so much for helping to bring our Maybee girl to us! We love our girl so much and as far as we are concerned she is the perfect dog. She has really found her place a great family and receives lots of love from us.
