Molly Jean #2156
Adopted August 1, 2011
Sweet, shy Molly (#2156) came into our lives very unexpectedly on a Friday afternoon in June. She slinked in the front door, hid behind the chair and peeked out at me. I sat on the floor and invited her to come and see me. Molly put her nose to the ground and slowly came over to see me. It was clear that Molly needed to learn how to be a Golden Retriever again.
After Jill (my GBR Adoption Manager) left, Molly and I sat together and had a talk. I invited her to jump on the bed and she looked away. I picked her up and put her on the bed. She stayed for a few seconds and got down. I let her explore and she was really nervous - every noise scared her. She came back to my room and put one paw on the bed - the next thing I knew, she was on the bed and resting uncomfortably. This was all so very new for her that she wasn’t sure she should be up there.
Our next adventure was a bath. I don’t think Molly was bathed regularly and I had no idea what she would think about it but, it had to be done. She was very co-operative and, once it was over, I think she felt better. Molly slept on the bed that night, rather peacefully. In order for Molly to do her business, I had to be with her. It took several minutes for her to find an acceptable spot and she was still very afraid.
The first time we threw a ball to her; she watched it land and looked at us. Eventually, she decided that a ball was great fun. She loves to carry one around and will ask anyone to play with her. One of her favorite things to do is to chase water from a hose!We have worked diligently with Molly and she is now able to go outside on her own, noises are not scary to her, she loves to snuggle on the couch, as well as sleep in the bed. She enjoys playing and going on walks. She is great with kids and has become very comfortable meeting new people.
Molly has been a wonderful addition to our lives. Her next adventure is a few days at the Oregon coast. Thank you for your help and persistence in finding our girl Molly.
