Hi, my name is Dirk (#2208) and I am one of the Spokane Ten dogs that came to Golden Bond Rescue from another rescue group located in Spokane, WA. I am about 4 years old and weigh a healthy 80 lbs. I know I’m not a pure Golden Retriever - my foster mom and dad think I’m part Golden and part Vizsla. I heard them say that I am an all around good boy. I am really, really sweet and will follow you around the house. I LOVE to be around people. I get along well with kids but would probably be too nervous in a household with lots of little kids yelling.
My foster parents are sure I was abused in my other life because if they move toward me in a way that I perceive as scary, I cringe and flinch. A few times, my foster mom has patted me on my side when I wasn’t expecting it, and I ducked like I thought I was going to be hit. I’m getting better, and really enjoy having my head rubbed, being brushed, and just looking at my foster mom. My eyes get all squinty when my foster mom scratches my chest and tummy. Walking on a leash and collar is a little scary for me, but I do really well on walks if you put me in a harness. Also, getting into the car is scary. My foster says it’ll just take time for me to become accustomed to getting into a car.
Although I haven’t been around cats, my foster says I am so gentle that I probably wouldn’t bother them. I get along well with big and little dogs, and I’m just now starting to play with the other dogs at my foster home. One of them is a Greyhound and I love to chase him. I haven’t been able to catch him, but I run as fast as I can and we have a great time. About the only time I bark is when someone comes to the door. When my foster mom comes home, I do a little dance to get her attention, but I calm down very quickly.
If you think you can give me the love and attention I crave, please contact Golden Bond Rescue.
Note From Foster Mom: Dirk is a real treasure and is the type of dog for which most of our adopters are looking. We've left him at home with the other dogs for several hours, and he appears to do fine. I wouldn't want to place him in a home where his family would be away at work or school for long periods of time, i.e. 8 hours. He loves to run around and around our pasture, but will always come running back to us when we call him.
