Scarlett #2206
Adopted January 26, 2012
Our new girl, Scarlett #2206 is doing very well. She missed Kay, her foster mom, for the first few days but then she must have decided I was OK and began to follow me around like a shadow. She seems to take to women quickly but is very shy with men. She is warming up to Jim, her new forever dad, a little more each day. He walks her every morning and I generally walk her during the day and in the evening - she loves her walks! We have a fenced back yard but she has not been overly eager to explore it (except when she saw a squirrel out there and gave it a chase!). We don’t know her background but she apparently has had some training as she will obey basic commands (sit, stay, shake, etc.) and will patiently sit and give you her paws to wipe dry when she comes in from outside. She was a picky eater at first but we found a grain free dog food that she likes and now licks her dish clean. She is putting up with our cat really well. Our cat Lucy, grew up with our previous golden named Murphy. Lucy has always hid under the bed when a new dog came around but with Scarlett, she warmed up to her right away. She wants to sleep with Scarlett like she did with Murphy and will wash Scarlett’s face! We think Lucy believes Scarlett is Murphy returned! We are very happy with Scarlett and believe all of you at Golden Bond Rescue do a wonderful job! Thank you!

Scarlett's Available Story
I am a beautiful four year old, dark red golden/shepherd mix. When you see me in person, you will know why I am named Scarlett (#2206) - think of 'Gone With The Wind'. I have black markings around my eyes, short floppy ears trimmed in black with long black hair framing my face. I have the golden personality and want to be with my people. I spent my first year of life living in a shelter, and you know what most dogs do in that environment? Yes, I do bark and jump up but with some help and training, I will learn that those things are not acceptable. I tried getting on the furniture but was told once that was not acceptable. I do cuddle with my foster Mom on her bed at night lying on my own blanket. It is our special time together, and boy do I love it. I usually don't stay there all night. I am quiet in the house and can be found snuggled on my bed.
I love to go for walks. I am well trained for sit, down and I walk well on leash but need to be reminded to heal. I really know the word POTTY and get excited to go outside. I normally don't take treats given to me by hand but will eat them if you put the treat on my bed. I must have been trained to go to my bed for treats. My foster home has a cat that I don't bother but if given a chance to get his food, I help myself. I have eaten the cat's food when it was left on the counter in my reach - who wouldn't? I'm in foster care with an older, female golden who has to be the boss, so I haven't had the freedom of being the only dog. I can be timid at first meeting but it doesn't take long for me to warm up to you. I have great potential for being a loving companion to my new family. Could that be you?
