Autumn #158
Crossed the Rainbow Bridge May, 2002
It was with great sadness that I said good-bye to my very special Autumn-girl. Both Patsy and I were with her when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She was such a sweet dog to have around.
Those of you who met her at the various functions know what I am speaking of. She would stand for unlimited time just to be petted and if you stopped, she would gently nudge your hand for more. She was finally coming around to liking some of her toys, mostly just shaking them but it was so good to see her enjoy new things. It was obvious that she had never had that opportunity before. She enjoyed her dinner time and would make it known by barking and being excited while it was being fixed. I was so very glad to be able to make her last months happy and more comfortable. She was able to be spoiled and have company during the day and her people at night.
I thank all of you for your concern and care that we give to these older dogs. They are so very special and deserve the love and attention in their remaining days.
Autum- Updated May 2002
Here is a very special lady. Autumn was a stray who we believe to be about 11 years old. She loves her people and the attention they provide. She will put her head in your lap for you to pet and if you stop, well forget it! Autumn is not one to do much playing with toys she just concentrates on her people. She has some medical issues, however day to day they are minor. Autumn either stands or lies down, she does not sit very often. It is felt that this is either because she has trouble breathing or that there is some arthritis in the spine and legs. She takes glucosamine twice a day to help with her arthritic hip joints. In her exams it was found that she has a tumor on her spleen. No biopsy or further testing has been done due to her age. She just needs to be watched and observed for any diet or behavior changes. She does take short walks in the evening and thoroughly enjoys them. She is not inclined to go out in the yard and walk around or spend much time by herself. At her age, she prefers the company of her humans. Autum is a dog in permanent foster care because of her age and health issues. She will spend her remaining days being cared for by a special foster family. It takes someone unique to offer this gift to our dogs and Golden Bond is very thankful that Autum will be able to spend her last days with love and dignity.
A heartfelt thanks to Linda for opening her home and heart to Autum. Because of her willingness to take care of Autum, this Old Golden was able to spend her last months in a loving environment.
