Gabby #1243

Crossed the Rainbow Bridge October 20, 2005

Gabby #1243Gabby (#1243) came into Golden Bond Rescue at the beginning of June of this year when she walked out in the road, in front of a car who had stopped for the stop sign. It was a very rainy night and the couple in the car, Jeff and Jeanie, got out and put her into their car as it was obvious she needed help. Bless people like this!

After realizing what poor health she was in, they decided they would not try to find the owner. She had been dumped. They called Golden Bond Rescue. I went to meet Jeff to bring her in and have a vet visit with Murryhill Vet Clinic. After transferring Gabby to my car, Jeff proceeded to bring all sorts of things for Gabby, a wonderful big bed, dog food, biscuits, and toys. He literally loaded up my car plus gave a very nice donation to Golden Bond.

After a visit to the vet, where it was determined she needed to put on lots of weight, she visited several foster homes. But her major one was on the coast in Warrington where she romped and played on the beach with Andrea from June to Sept. By this time she had started going down hill, so she was brought to the Portland area. After several weeks, she started loosing weight again. I was fortunate enough to foster her by now. Another vet visit determined she had cancer of the spleen and liver and had dementia, as well.

The two things Gabby loved to do were riding in the car and EATING! She would eat anything, anytime and still loose weight. So the last morning, after a full two cup breakfast, a nice ride in the car with many treats, we started her across the Bridge. At the end, Dr. Sulis and I broke up a bunch of treats and put them on the floor between her legs whereupon she started to eat to her heart's content. As she gobbled up the treats, the injection was started. She continued eating as more fluid went into her vein, she ate slower and slower and finally put her head down and was gone. If this wasn't heaven here on earth for our Gabby, then I don't know what it would be.

As we all know, she is now in a happy place, able to run and romp with a clear mind. It is sad to know that Gabby is gone, but all of us connected with this sweet girl, who was actually a yellow lab, can feel good that we undoubtedly gave her almost five of the best months of her life.

Thanks to Jeff and Jeanie and others who give of their hearts, we are able to make life just that more pleasant for dear creatures like Gabby.
