Triever #1598
Crossed the Rainbow Bridge July, 2008
I went searching the internet for love. To most people that means heading to a dating website. For me that meant surfing the local shelter and dog rescue websites. As soon as I saw his picture and read his lovely profile, I knew I'd found a keeper. His name was Triever (#1598). He was a handsome senior fellow with a lot of love left to share.
When he joined my household, he seemed at home immediately. He and my other dog, Levi, enjoyed the companionship but didn't need to play together, so they were also a perfect match. They simply enjoyed walking and relaxing together. Triever joined our daily routine of 2 walks/day, although he usually rested in the car while Levi and I ran together.
Triever particularly enjoyed exploring my backyard. He sauntered the perimeter seeking new smells. That was one of the biggest lessons he taught Levi — to take time to smell the random blade of grass or flower whether or not you decide to mark it. Take extra time to do this. In return for this lesson, Levi taught him to explore the garbage.
This gentle, loving soul taught Levi and me so much more too. He taught Levi to trust people and to not worry so much. He taught me, once again, about the resilience of dogs. He also taught me to slow down and drink in my surroundings once in awhile. The thought of his mischievous smile still brings a grin to my face. He liked to cut a path across a particular section of river rock in one of the landscape beds in my backyard. I gave up trying to divert him and let him cut his path. He always looked so proud of himself after traipsing through this area. A delphinium now graces this path.
My hope is that he enjoyed his year with Levi and me as much as we did. I know that I will never forget the delight of his company. It was a very good year.

Triever (#1598) found his forever home with Theresa and another rescue dog Levi, who was from the Katrina floods. And what a joyous threesome they make! These three go everywhere together. Riding in the car is fun but the best are all the walks they go on daily.
As you might remember, Triever was the dog with Golden Retriever uvitis which is like Glaucoma in dogs. Triever had lost his sight in one eye but still had sight in the other. Triever moved right in with Theresa figuring out the steps to the backyard and can now negotiate the slippery steps down to the garage. He has a big yard to explore with his friend Levi.
Theresa reports that Triever is just the best dog and she and Levi love him very much. Levi is happy to now have a friend in the house when Theresa goes to work. A very happy threesome indeed, definitely a forever home.
