Homer #1892

Crossed the Rainbow Bridge January, 2011

Homer #1892Homer (#1892) came home on July 27, 2009. From the moment he jumped into my car at his foster home, he stole my heart. He immediately felt comfortable with his new golden brother Buddy and seemed to enjoy his feline sister Fay's antics. Homer's sweetness was exceptional. It was easy to catch him grinning from ear to ear especially when he was around people. It didn't matter if they were old friends or new friends he had just met while out on a walk. When someone knocked on the door he quickly went to find his cherished stuffed lion so that he could have it with him when he welcomed folks into the house. He could not have been a more mellow or peaceful old gentleman. I truly feel blessed to have had the opportunity to spend the last year and a half with my Homer. It was so sad to see his health decline over the last six months until he could only walk a few steps without falling. It was time to say good-bye to this dear, sweet beautiful boy. He will not be forgotten.

Adopted July 27, 2009

Homer #1892 came home in early July. He met his new brother Buddy while at his foster home and the two boys jumped into the car to head to Medford as though they had always taken rides together. There was no history of Homer’s experience with cats and when we were met at the door by my nine year old female cat Fay, I wondered what would happen. Homer didn’t give her a second look and just went on in with his favorite stuffed toy in his mouth and checked out his new home. Fay was completely comfortable with that introduction and has completely trusted him from that point on. She quickly began napping right next to Homer whenever she can find room on his bed.

Homer and Buddy became fast friends. As seniors, they don’t get involved in serious playing, but they do seem to enjoy sleeping back to back and they willingly share their toys. Homer loves to go on walks and he and Buddy are so well behaved…no pulling, no trying to chase after cats or squirrels, just one golden on either side of me enjoying the sights and smells. Homer is truly a mellow fellow and although he has been here for a month I have not heard him bark. He is happy to see visitors whether they be human or canine and gives everyone a hearty welcome. He has a great appetite and quickly located my garden. He seemed proud to have found such an accessible snack as he began harvesting tomatoes! I feel truly blessed to have this great golden guy as part of my family. He has a cute little grin, great big feet, a long swishing tail and a personality that brings smiles to all that meet him
