Maxwell #1767

Crossed the Rainbow Bridge Shortly Before Christmas, December 2010

Maxwell #1767It is with sad hearts that we report the death of our Maxwell. Max and his sister McKenzie (who remains alive and well) came to us from Golden Bond Rescue in the fall of 2008. Ten years old at the time, we didn't know how long we would have with the pair. Maxie lasted a good three years more and we loved him every minute of it. On the day the pair arrived for their home visit Max bounded through the door, jumped on the sofa, and announced in his big goofy way, "I'm here!"

There was nothing mellow or sedate about this olden golden. Max was always a cross between a teddy bear and a toddler; as adorable as the former, as mischievous as the latter. Life with Maxwell wasn't easy because Trouble was his middle name. We can't begin to count how many pillows, shoes, purses, wallets, coats, bathrobes, and computer parts he chewed his way through. He was a master counter-surfer and if any household item was missing, we quickly learned to look for the remaining pieces of it in Max's bed on the deck.

We eventually gave up scolding him, because Max's only response was to look you in the eye and give you that big silly grin as if to say, "ain't I cute!" Perhaps one of our most enduring memories of Max will be the sight of his tail and hind end hanging out the back of a toppled garbage can, his very favorite form of misbehaving. Maxwell most certainly lived life large, loved everyone he met, and always assumed they loved him too. We loved you Maxwell and you will always be missed.

Maxwell (#1767) and McKenzie's (#1768) Adoption Story

Adopted October 30, 2008

Maxwell #1767 Mckenzie #1768Ten-year-old littermates, Maxwell and McKenzie, bounded into our home and into our hearts in late October. As lovers of "Olden Goldens" this pair was just what we were looking for. As do all Goldens, these two brought with them their own unique personalities.

Maxwell has never met a garbage can he didn't like, and he can sniff out a single candy wrapper from 100 ft. This big boy is a cross between a teddy bear and a toddler, with the look and appeal of the former and the penchant for mischief of the latter. Always curious and eager to handle anything new, Maxy amazes us with his strength and persistence. For example, we left a 12-can carton of dog food on the countertop. Max not only managed to get if off the counter, but dragged it through the dog door, shredded the packaging, and spread the cans all over the back deck. We've found the large, overstuffed dog bed, the upstairs bathmat, and my best coat out on the deck as well. Max also has a stubborn streak. On walks, he'll decide he wants to stop for awhile and simply sits down with no intention of budging.

Sister McKenzie just wants to be someone's "special girl". She is sweet, sweet, sweet and tries hard to please. We call McKenzie our little shadow because she follows us everywhere and needs a lot of love and attention. Apparently the pair lived in a situation with multiple other dogs and were kept in a kennel, so they have required some adjustment to indoor life and lots more people contact. We're teaching them commands, and they have mastered "sit", but we've still got work to do on the much harder "lie down", "stay", and "come". All-in-all, the pair are adjusting well and it's such a pleasure to have Goldens in the house again. It's been too quiet around here since our last aged pair passed on.

Maxwell #1767McKenzie #1768Hi! Our names are Max (#1767) and McKenzie (#1768)! We are littermates and have just turned 10 years old. We are hoping to be adopted together because we're best friends and have never been apart all our lives. We came from a wonderful home and have been well taken care of since we were pups, but our mom is moving and she can't take us with her. We are happy, our tails are always wagging, and we never stop smiling.

Although we are a bit chubby (Max weighs 110 pounds and McKenzie weighs 90 pounds), we are working hard to lose our weight! We love going for long walks on the leash every day and are learning to "heel." We know the word "sit", and we respond to the word "no". All these walks and new training are tiring, but we have so much more energy now and don't feel our 10 years at all!

Our favorite thing to do is SWIM!! We also love to lie in the water and fetch sticks, too.

We always lived in an outside kennel, but Foster Mom is teaching us how to behave like good dogs inside the house now. Boy, is it fun to run upstairs and take clean laundry — it's so soft and reminds us of our favorite toys — but Foster Mom says that's a "no", so we listen and learn little by little. Foster Mom says we're not fully trained yet, but we are bright doggies and are learning "manners".

We would love to move in together with a family, with or without kids. If you have room in your family for two happy Goldens, we are the dogs for you!! Until then, Foster Mom is going to keep taking us on walks so we can continue to shed our extra pounds... and have fun of course!
