Abbie #1801
Crossed the Rainbow Bridge October 25, 2010
We held our precious Abbie (#1801) as Dr. Lindsay helped her cross the Rainbow Bridge and tearfully said goodbye. Now she is happy in heaven and has already gotten to know our other dogs, Ruby, Angel and Sonny, who are showing her all she needs to know about this great new adventure.
Abbie came into our lives just about two years ago when her loving folks, Kitty and Tom were being transferred to Australia and weren't able to take her along. Initially, we were going to be Abbie's foster family, but that lasted about 20 minutes. Abbie quickly found a place in our hearts and settled right in.
Abbie loved anticipating her walks every morning. She would run through the house and you could hear her little sing-song voice as she patiently waited to get leashed up. She loved walking through town and enjoyed romping on the fields at the edge of campus. She always was ready for breakfast every morning and loved those special treats that were slipped to her under the kitchen table. She loved toast and jam and bits of bacon. She sat just outside the kitchen door during meal preparations and enjoyed tomato and cheese bites, sometimes trying to sneak into the kitchen to get a little bit closer to the action. Mostly she enjoyed sitting with Bear and Caliber, knowing she would always get her share.
Our little round girl loved the beach and wasn't quite a water dog like her brothers, she had so much fun running along the sand at the edge of the surf. She investigated everything dead she could find, and would roll in the most gross stuff, whenever she had the chance. She liked kids and big dogs and cats and people. She barely tolerated little dogs and would roll them over, given the opportunity. She loved sleeping on her lambies and being with her family. She sought out quiet places in the house and yard and enjoyed the solitude.
She loved naps in the sunshine and guacamole and popcorn. She has given us more happy memories and good laughs and fun times to remember forever. Our feelings of loss and grief are overwhelming at the moment. We are comforted in knowing that she is not in physical pain any longer, and is running happily on a beach filled with birds to chase and big dogs and all the treats she can discover.
