Crossed the Rainbow Bridge March 2009

We wanted to let you know that our wonderful GR/Great Pyr mix Sam (#1172) made the trip to the Rainbow Bridge last week. It was a sad day for us and especially his two cat buddies, Scooter and Tiger, that Sam protected and looked after with all of his heart. About a year and a half ago, Sam had surgery on a rear leg to remove a tumor — unfortunately, the cancer returned and we discovered several new tumors on his front legs in January of this year. Tiger and Scooter knew he was sick and had begun spending more time laying with him and fussing around him when he was trying to get in a nap. Tiger would escort Sam to the water bowl and drink with him, just to be sure he was getting enough fluids. Scooter would groom his face and nuzzle him while we were all watching TV or a movie. Funny how animals just know when something isn't right.

Sam was a BIG dog with an even bigger heart. His easy going goofyness made it impossible to have a bad day when we were with him. He loved people and never missed a chance to greet someone new on a walk around the lake. He was a handsome looking dog and always got compliments wherever we would go. He loved his ball and constantly "encouraged" us to love it too. :) He was always up for a game of catch. Neighbors, friends, guests, and visitors were greeted with an invitation to throw the ball....just once....pleeeze!

He was known as Samson, but had many nicknames too: Sambone the Hambone, Sammy from Miami, Sammer the Hammer, Sammy Underfoot, Sammy Crowbar, Shop Dog, Big Dog and Big Sam.

Thank you, Golden Bond for being there for all the Goldens in need, but especially for letting Sam spend his last 4 years with us. We'll miss him so much, but we know he's in a place now where no one ever gets tired of throwing tennis balls, the fireworks are pretty but silent, and when it rains, there is never any thunder.

Our wonderful golden-great Pyr mix, Sam (#1172), has been adopted. As usual, the new family's account of the adoption and first days is far better than anyone at Golden Bond could write. This family went one better and posted their story and some wonderful photos at their own web site.
