Girlie #2119

Crossed the Rainbow Bridge November 8, 2011

Permanent Foster June 2011

Girlie #2119A young man named Damon spotted Girlie (#2119) wandering loose near his house in the summer of 2010. She looked like a normal healthy dog, so he thought that she surely belonged to someone and had just gotten loose. Damon didn’t see her again until the first of January 2011, and he almost didn’t recognize that it was the same dog. She was really skinny and appeared to be starving to death, literally. He rescued her and took her to the vet and spent $400 of his own money on Girlie’s care.

Damon was living with his parents at the time and had to plead with them to let him keep her in a kennel in the garage. He put in carpet and a heater so that she was warm and comfortable. He said watching her eat her first meal made him cry. She had lost so much weight, she only weighed 41 lbs.

Damon contacted the local animal shelters, local vets, placed an ad on Craigslist, as well as putting up signs trying to find her owner. A month later when no one responded, Damon contacted Golden Bond Rescue for help since he wasn’t able to keep her.

Golden Bond placed Girlie in her foster home where she has received the best of care and was given the time to recover from her year alone in the woods. Everyone who has met her was amazed that she had survived for so long on her own.

Since she came to Golden Bond in such poor health, it was soon apparent that she would never be healthy enough to be adopted. Girlie was made a permanent foster dog and will spend the rest of her life living it up and never having to scrounge for food again.

Girlie #2119 Girlie was chosen as our model for the flyers on our 4th annual Golden Vintage wine dinner and auction fundraiser for 2011.
