McKenzie #1768

Crossed the Rainbow Bridge September 2011

McKenzie #1768Last month we lost our dear McKenzie #1768 following a sudden illness. McKenzie, age 14, came to us from Golden Bond Rescue along with her litter mate Maxwell at the age of 10. This pair was everything olden goldens should be: sweet, loving, entertaining, and always ready to snuggle. We lost Max just before Christmas, but McKenzie was doing great. She bounced right back from tumor removal surgery a couple of months ago, with no apparent ill effects. McKenzie went on a walk one afternoon, eager and full of energy as always, began acting ill shortly thereafter, and was dead in less than 24 hours. The vet said she was in multisystem organ failure—cause unknown—with no realistic hope for recovery. We had four wonderful years with this golden girl who never met a person she didn’t just LOVE. McKenzie, we will miss you and your heartwarming smile.

Success Story: Maxwell (#1767) and McKenzie (#1768)

Adopted October 30, 2008

McKenzie #1768Ten-year-old littermates,Maxwell #1767 and Mckenzie #1768, bounded into our home and into our hearts in late October. As lovers of "Olden Goldens" this pair was just what we were looking for. As do all Goldens, these two brought with them their own unique personalities.

Maxwell has never met a garbage can he didn't like, and he can sniff out a single candy wrapper from 100 ft. This big boy is a cross between a teddy bear and a toddler, with the look and appeal of the former and the penchant for mischief of the latter. Always curious and eager to handle anything new, Maxy amazes us with his strength and persistence. For example, we left a 12-can carton of dog food on the countertop. Max not only managed to get if off the counter, but dragged it through the dog door, shredded the packaging, and spread the cans all over the back deck. We've found the large, overstuffed dog bed, the upstairs bathmat, and my best coat out on the deck as well. Max also has a stubborn streak. On walks, he'll decide he wants to stop for awhile and simply sits down with no intention of budging.

Sister McKenzie just wants to be someone's "special girl". She is sweet, sweet, sweet and tries hard to please. We call McKenzie our little shadow because she follows us everywhere and needs a lot of love and attention. Apparently the pair lived in a situation with multiple other dogs and were kept in a kennel, so they have required some adjustment to indoor life and lots more people contact. We're teaching them commands, and they have mastered "sit", but we've still got work to do on the much harder "lie down", "stay", and "come". All-in-all, the pair are adjusting well and it's such a pleasure to have Goldens in the house again. It's been too quiet around here since our last aged pair passed on.

Available Story: Maxwell (#1767) and McKenzie (#1768)

Maxwell #1767McKenzie #1768Hi! Our names are Maxwell (#1767) and McKenzie (#1768)! We are litter-mates and have just turned 10 years old. We are hoping to be adopted together because we're best friends and have never been apart all our lives. We came from a wonderful home and have been well taken care of since we were pups, but our mom is moving and she can't take us with her. We are happy, our tails are always wagging, and we never stop smiling.

Although we are a bit chubby (Max weighs 110 pounds and McKenzie weighs 90 pounds), we are working hard to lose our weight! We love going for long walks on the leash every day and are learning to "heel." We know the word "sit", and we respond to the word "no". All these walks and new training are tiring, but we have so much more energy now and don't feel our 10 years at all!

Our favorite thing to do is SWIM!! We also love to lie in the water and fetch sticks, too.

We always lived in an outside kennel, but Foster Mom is teaching us how to behave like good dogs inside the house now. Boy, is it fun to run upstairs and take clean laundry — it's so soft and reminds us of our favorite toys — but Foster Mom says that's a "no", so we listen and learn little by little. Foster Mom says we're not fully trained yet, but we are bright doggies and are learning "manners".

We would love to move in together with a family, with or without kids. If you have room in your family for two happy Goldens, we are the dogs for you!! Until then, Foster Mom is going to keep taking us on walks so we can continue to shed our extra pounds... and have fun of course!
