Rylee #1597

Crossed tthe Rainbow Bridge November 29, 2010

Rylee #1597It has been almost a year since we lost our beloved Rylee #1597. He was diagnosed with Malignant Histiocytosis in early October and he crossed the Rainbow Bridge on November 29th, 2010. We adopted Rylee in July of 2007. He was 5 1/2 at that time, so he had a pretty good run overall at over 8 1/2 years, but we had hoped he would be with us until old age took him.

This dog stole our hearts the moment we saw him. The one habit he had that was part of his life from the moment he woke until her curled up next to us at night was his "affliction with reflections" and shadows. We even had to put a little cover over his collar tags so that he would not stand all day (if the sun was out), trying to get the reflections bouncing off the deck or hot tub! When friends would come for outdoor parties, our joke was that everyone had to remove anything that might cause a reflection, or deal with the big guy chasing them around you as you held tight to your wine glass!

Rylee was also a velcro guy. He loved to be petted and would let you know if you quit too soon. Rob called him his "supervisor" as he was always at his side during the projects Rob was doing around the house, putting in a new deck, paving walkways or tiling floors. You name it, Rylee was within an arm's length, likely hoping you were going to make reflections for him to chase.

Thank you, Golden Bond, for the opportunity to adopt this special dog. He was the light of our lives for the three plus years we had him and we still miss him terribly. If Char is still involved with Golden Bond (she was his foster mom), please let her know he was well loved and had a spoiled life with us. We are planning on adopting again, so will be in contact soon.

Rylee's Adoption Story, adopted Aug 28, 2007

Rylee #1597We had been approved for adoption through Golden Bond in late June, after finally making the decision to adopt and looking at their website for a few months. We lost our first dog and second Golden when he was almost 8 in February 2007. It was very suddenly and the grief was overwhelming.  We know all of you reading this can understand. Thankfully we still had “Brandie” who is almost 10, she was and is our first Golden. She was heartsick after losing her buddy Griz, and we were heartsick watching her waiting for him to come around the corner or in through the door. So by the time we made the decision to adopt we were most anxious for Holly, our adoption coordinator, to find a good fit for the “three” of us. And boy did she!! She notified us that Rylee might be available the last week of July and by that weekend he was on his way to his forever home. This after spending about 3 weeks with his foster family (Char, we know you and your husband loved Rylee too, thanks so much for taking him in. We have a great respect for foster families after going through this process)

So Rylee came “home” and after the normal adjustments that we were prepared for, he settled in very quickly. He came with that Golden skin condition that some of them have, very itchy and uncomfortable, scratching all the time. He was on antibiotics and needed a bath twice a week with medicated shampoo. We were adamant that we would find relief for this dog, and are happy to report that within 3 weeks, his itching went from almost constant to almost none. He has filled this house with laughter again, he loves his tennis balls, loves to play with Brandie, loves attention, and loves his daily walks and/or jogs around the neighborhood. Brandie was a calming effect on him when he arrived, she let him know that it is okay to hang out together and just be on squirrel patrol when we are away for a short time or at work. You can see from his pictures that the tennis balls are never far away. His adoption papers say he is 5 years old, but he makes us believe he is a 2 year old living in that beautiful Golden body. Thank you Golden Bond Rescue for all that each of you do – these dogs deserve a second chance at a forever home and you have give them that and more.
