Permanent Foster Dogs
Updated February 7, 2006

Occassionally, a rescued dog comes into Golden Bond that cannot be made available for adoption because of health reasons. Golden Bond provides permanent foster homes for those that are not able to be placed in a "forever" home. Below are a few of their stories.

Sir Galahad (#1327)

Sir Galahad
Sir Galahad (#1327), came to Golden Bond by way of Multnomah County Shelter. He was a stray and since he was so old Golden Bond was called immediately when his waiting time was up. They named him Sir Galahad and since it seemed very appropriate, the name stuck.

Sir Galahad had a visit to the vet where he was neutered, teeth cleaned and blood work taken. The work-up showed he was a suspect for early renal disease but still very active and happy. He got a thorough going over and put on the website. Since it became pretty obvious he wasn't going to be adopted he has been made a permanent foster living with Patsy and Howard and their four dogs, Henry, Ben, Sarah and Mr. Bailey. Everyone loves Sir Galahad, so he will happily live out his days with his new family.

Clarence (#1283)

Clarence
Hi! My name is Clarence (#1283) and I was found wandering out in the countryside by Ellensburg, Washington on July 4, 2005. The family that found me kept me for two weeks, while putting up fliers around the area trying to find my mommy and daddy. But they had to take me to the Ellensburg Animal Shelter, and they named me Clarence because I'm sort of clumsy. I have mostly gray hair and am about average height. No one knows how old I am, but the vets think I'm about 10 years old. The day before I was to be euthanized a very nice lady, Tami, found me at the shelter. As she already had several goldens herself, she looked on the Internet at the Rescue a Golden of Arizona website and someone from Golden Bond of Oregon saw her inquiry and that is how I became a Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon dog.

And that's where we come in. Hi! We're Ken and Brenda and we have a 9 year old golden, Birdie Sue. We were driving Golden Bond crazy to find us a senior golden to foster and adopt. We were grieving for our 6 year old golden, Jake, whom we had lost to cancer earlier in the year. We finally got the call about Clarence. We drove to Hood River in August to meet with Tami and pick him up and take him home with her. The minute she saw him, she had already fallen in love.

Clarence
Upon getting back to Portland with Clarence, we stopped at our vet to introduce Clarence to him. We were surprised to hear that he had concerns over Clarence's health. He thought he may have a kidney or liver problem and that we must get some weight on him very slowly. Clarence was eventually diagnosed with terminal liver disease. We were very afraid that Golden Bond would take him from us because they do not place ill dogs with first time foster families. But they saw how much we loved him, that we were experienced with dogs with health issues and they said that Clarence was ours. He is now on medicine to make him more comfortable. Clarence became a permanent foster dog with us and Birdie Sue on November 23, 2005.

Clarence is a very loving, gentle and sweet dog. It is very apparent that he was a much loved and cared for dog. He loves to give kisses and usually bestows one on you as he is passing by. He loves his stuffed toys and will lay and squeak one until we have to take it away. He also loves the four grandkids and they love him, but they must be very gentle with him. He is unable to run and play as his back legs are very weak, which is why he appears to be clumsy,. The weakness is caused by his liver disease. We need to support him with our legs when we lean down to pat him on the side, otherwise, he falls over.

Clarence has set up housekeeping in the middle of the living room, with all his toys around him. We bought him a second bed to sleep on and that is now in the living room. He also sleeps in Birdie Sue's bed and beside Daddy in the bedroom. He has given us so much love, we can't imagine our lives without him. And we know that he loves us. We are very thankful that Clarence came to Golden Bond and they placed him with us... he is a gift. Clarence is also very thankful that Tami and Golden Bond found him just in time.

Rocky (#1323)

Rocky
"Hi! My name is Rocky (#1323)! My family had to give me up because they had a family crisis and thus put my life in crisis. I was left at my vet and they in turn contacted Golden Bond to see if I could be one of their lucky dogs. The day I was picked up, I knew my life had begun to turn around."

Turns out Rocky is a real gentleman in every way. He is a big boy who just loves his people. He gets along with all dogs but is known to try and crowd in when it comes to sharing loves. Gentle is his nature with people and animals. One would never know Rocky is 12, as he runs with excitement just like a puppy. He loves walks and rides in the car and bounces up and down until he gets to go along. It appears Rocky hasn't been touched much as it has taken time for him to feel comfortable with his foster mother touching his feet and ears so they can get the attention they need. He is getting much better.

Rocky
Rocky does have a few health issues but again, one would never know by his energy and happiness. His liver is slightly enlarged due to what, we really don't know. There is a small mass in the lung area that seems to be contained and again we do not know for certain what it is. Because of these medical issues, it has been decided to make Rocky a permanent foster with Golden Bond where he will live out his final years with a foster family being loved and spoiled.
